CDWG Expands Small Business Consortium To Serve State, Local and Education Customers
Program Now in More Than Eight States

Vernon Hills, Ill. - May 10, 2004 -
CDW Government, Inc. (CDWG), the government and education subsidiary of CDW Corporation (Nasdaq: CDWC),
today announced it is expanding its Small Business Partner Consortium ("SBC") to serve state, local government and
education customers in eight states: Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, New York, Virginia and
Wisconsin.
The SBC program has been in operation at the federal level since July 2003 and was launched at the state level in
January 2004 in California, Illinois, Ohio, Texas and Washington.
The CDWG Small Business Partner Consortium was created to help small and disadvantaged businesses more effectively
compete for federal and state information technology (IT) contracts. By partnering with CDWG, participating companies
are able to leverage CDWG's operational efficiency, marketing reach, e-commerce and service capabilities. In addition,
the program enables government agencies to meet minority-, veteran-, HUBZone-, and women-owned business purchasing goals.
As an added benefit, government agencies that hire participants of SBC receive specialized IT services through CDWG.
"The Small Business Partner Consortium is a success for CDWG, the participants and the government agencies,"
said Jim Shanks, president of CDWG. "We see the expansion of the SBC as a positive signal to our state, local and
education customers in these eight states that we are working to deliver innovative ways to solve their technology
needs."
One of the SBC's first participants was Sophisticated Systems, an Ohio-based systems integrator and hardware/software
provider with offices in Columbus, Dayton, Indianapolis and Detroit. "As one of the first minority- or women-owned
businesses to join CDWG's Small Business Partner Consortium, we are honored to work with such an outstanding company
that recognizes quality and puts its clients' needs first," said Dwight Smith, president and CEO of Sophisticated
Systems. "Together, we are bidding and beginning to win business with CDWG as a true partner. We see the value that
the Consortium brings to our clients, both today and in the future."
CDWG will continue to roll out its SBC to other states through a phased process. "It is important that the
SBC program is profitable for both CDWG and our partners, so we are carefully managing our expansion efforts,"
said Kevin Adams, CDWG vice president of program management. "As with all our new initiatives at CDWG, we
want to ensure that we always provide superior performance for our customers."
How It Works
Once selected as part of a competitive bidding process, Consortium members sign an annual CDWG partnership contract
that is not limited to any specific project. As the small businesses pursue an opportunity, they work directly with
the customer and involve CDWG when they need products to support their service engagements or when they want to
offer their customers CDWG's many value-adding offerings, such as custom PC configuration, asset-tagging services,
and the CDWG Software License Tracker -- a web-based software license management tool. CDWG also refers business
to member companies, and conducts sales and marketing activities with the Consortium members.
On May 3, 2004, CDWG issued a request-for-proposal (RFP) soliciting woman-, minority- or veteran-owned companies,
certified small and disadvantaged firms, and companies located in a federal HUBZone in these eight states to
participate in the SBC. The HUBZone program provides federal contracting assistance to businesses located in
economically distressed geographic areas. The RFP can be found on CDWG's Web site at www.cdwg.com/smallbizrfp.
The deadline for submitting proposals is June 7, 2004, with the goal of having partnership agreements in place by
July 1, 2004.
