Easy to Install
We received the drum very quickly and it was very, very easy to replace. Not sure why it costs over $100, which is half what I paid for our printer, but it is a necessary part. I am glad it was so easy to install.

Multi-functional, efficient Brother printer
I switched from Hewlett-Packard ("HP" printers that I have ordered for years to try this Brother printer which prints, copies and scans. Thus far, I have been quite pleased with the quality of the printer and the ease with which I can print, copy and scan. It is relatively fast and prints two-sided pages which saves $$$ if you choose to print that way. The main reason I changed from HP was the cost of their printer ink, which was excessively expensive. I have not yet purchased another Brother print cartridge, but am anticipating that the cost-per-page will be much less than HP.

The printer works well and produces good quality c
I especially like the wireless feature which actually works. I could never get that feature to work on my previous Brother printer. My only complaint is that these are designed so that when the platen goes, it is actually cheaper to buy a new printer than to replace the platen and a toner cartridge.

HORRIBLE PRINTER/MACHINE
First of all the Brother's Box and Literature says it is compatible with PC's and MACS; however, once you start to install the disc you learn that you have to install this Brother Printer on-line and most likely require the assistance of a Brother's technician.
Second, no where does the Brother's Printer information about this printer does it say, the Brother's DCP-L2540DW is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH A 5-G NETWORK!!! I had to find this out the hard way by calling the Brother's Help Line twice, with the second Brother's technician informing me that this Laser Printer does not work on a 5-G Network.
Since getting the Brother Printer installed, I have had to re-install the printer several times to get the printer to work. Today, when I couldn't get the printer to work again, I gave up and called the Brother's Help Line. I was once again asked to delete the printer and then re-set it all up again. When the technician could not figure out why the printer screen on my MAC did not depict "Paper Handling", allowing me to do duplex printing, the technician said we needed to delete the printer once again, and re-install the printer using the web-site. Given that I had already been on the phone with this technician for almost 30 minutes and I had work I needed to get done, I told the technician I would have to call back another day.
I WANT TO RETURN THIS PRINTER AND GET ANOTHER PRINTER THAT ALLOWS YOU TO USE THE 5-G NETWORK, AND DOES NOT HAVE TO BE REINSTALLED EVERY SINGLE DAY, WHEN YOU WANT TO PRINT. NOT ONE OF YOUR TECHNICIANS COULD FIGURE OUT WHY THE PRINTER KEPT BEING DISCONNECTED, EVEN THOUGH I NOW HAD TO USE A 5 NETWORK CONNECTION.
Moreover, the printer is very heavy, and I have to have help getting the printer up a flight of stairs from my garage, as I had spinal fusion surgery and can not carry the heavy printer by myself.
If Brother's wants me to use another Brother's laser printer, they should pick up the one I have in my home, and bring me an updated and easier to use Laser Printer.

Overall a great printer. Lover the scanner for copying odd items that wont go through a feeder. Love the Bluetooth to print from my phone. It's a little louder when printing but tolerable. Footprint is big too but new that it would be. So far toner lasting well.

Able to run sheets off for kids, sheets off for work, and sheets off for school without stressing the ink. I do wish it did color.

It's OK
I bought this printer 3 months ago. Occasionally the text in the middle of the sheet is dim, but not always. I tried various settings including turning off the toner saver feature and shaking the toner cartridge. So I replaced the starter toner but the printer would not recognize the new toner cartridge. I had to call support and after 3 times talking me through a printer re-set, it finally recognized the toner cartridge. I still have the occasional light text. But this purchase replaced an identical DCP-L2540DW Brother printer that I had 2-1/2 years. I was extremely pleased with it but it was taken out by lightning. I liked it so much I replaced with the same printer. I would give the first one 5 stars and this one 3 stars resulting in the 4-star rating. Also, the support was very good when I contacted them.

Great for home use. WiFi works flawlessly, even handling a firmware update. One of my main uses is printing crossword puzzles. Unlike inkjet, the ink doesn't smear and the printer doesn't require repetitive cleaning cycles, making it great for occasional use. Barely usable - not for an office. Functional BUT: Brother needs to simplify their product line - not even professional reviewers can get the features right. IMPOSSIBLE to make a good decision.

Excellent Printer for the Price
Prior to picking this printer up, I have been a long time Canon printer user. I was looking for a printer that offers basic quality printing with scanner AND ease of multiple devices connection preferrably without the cumbersome wire. After a few search and while there are plenty out there that pretty much offer the same features that I was looking for, I settled for this model for the price. Boy, sure glad I made the right choice. Has been extremely happy with this model. Had a little bit of a challenge with the initial setup and wireless connection but it was more on my part. Once all that was done, I have not experienced any issues. I can connect all of my devices including my phone and Samsung Tablet to this printer and can print literally from anywhere within the house.

Crisp, clear text
When it works, I really like this printer--but I haven't owned it long enough to know if it satisfies the primary reason why I chose it instead of another printer. I have experienced situations when my computer indicates that the printing was completed, but there was nothing in the printer. This has occurred several times. For example, I may print a one-page document without any problem; but then when I try to print a two-sided document, the Control Center icon indicates that it was printed--but it actually was not. It is frustrating, but I don't know it is caused by the printer, my software or the WiFi connection. The primary reason I replaced my old printer with this Brother printer is due to the frequency (and cost) of replacing ink jet cartridges in the old printer. I was literally spending more each month on ink than I spent on the printer. I was told by the Brother sales rep (confirmed by information on the website) that the toner cartridge for this printer should last a long time; so I expect the cost of operating this printer to be a small fraction of what I was spending before. I was initially disappointed when the toner that came with the printer expired so quickly (just a couple of hundred pages). But then I learned that the printer came with a "starter" toner that was not supposed to last nearly as long as a regular toner cartridge. I've owned this printer for less than a month, so I won't know for several more months (hopefully) if this was indeed a good choice. Nevertheless, the printing quality is excellent; and I hope to be completely satisfied--eventually.

Great Printer
I purchased this printer (refurbished) from a well known retailer. It was easy to set-up since I only used the USB cable from printer to computer. Wireless is okay, but USB cable is simple and more secure.
I like all the features and the duplex printing is great. That was one of the features that caught my eye. It prints fast and kicks out multi pages faster than any of my previous ink jet printers did.
I like the laser printer toner verses the liquid ink jet. The ink jet dries if not used daily and I seem to waste more ink (black and color) having to clean my print-heads constantly.
You cannot go wrong with the laser printer and you can trust Brother Printers.

Not as good as all our other Brother printers...
It seems to work, but is not quiet, as asvertised. It is noisy, sounds clunky. Sometimes I have compatibility issues with Word, and have to re-send the document to the printer. Since I have another Brother printer (MFC-8890DW connected to this computer, I can test the communications, which are okay. It seems to have settled down after I deleted the printer and reloaded drivers from the Brother website. So, for the price, it is functional, but not quite as excellent as all my other Brother printers (we have 6 here, 2 at home).

More features than I need
This is replacing my old HP1020 printer that I have had for many years and has printed more pages than I can tell you. I wanted another simple laser printer that did black and white but my wife wanted to copy also so we decided on this one as it does both. I like the copier as you can reduce and enlarge with it and the drawer keeps your paper clean.

This Printer/Copier/Scanner WILL NOT FRUSTRATE YOU
This printer WORKS. It is easy to set up. It is easy to connect to. It prints quickly and quietly, even when starting from sleep. The scanning application integrates seamlessly. IT WAKES FOR WIRELESS JOBS. The only issue I have had is that it took a little nudging to reconnect to the network when I had an extended power outage (September '17 in Maine). But, all I had to do was press the "wifi" button and it connected again. Wow, just wow! These reviews always ask "would you recommend..." The answer is YES. In fact, I already HAVE recommended this to one of my shipmates (Navy) who was asking about printers. His only reservation was that it "can only do Black and White." I say that it is one of its strengths; there are less expressive parts to break, and less ink to waste while the printer sleeps. This printer is simple, but it will handle any task you throw at it.

Works well when connected to network properly.
I like the printer overall and really like the fact that I will be saving money by not having to replace individual ink cartridges anymore. Initial setup went smoothly, then after time and reconfiguration of my home network I began losing connectivity with the Brother all in one printer. I made a call to customer service after several attempts to reconnect it properly on my own. Two features that I find confusing to use are the two-sided printing and making two-sided copies. I get it wrong before I get it right every time I attempt to do either. Then eventually get it right only to forget how to do it next time. I need to watch a video tutorial on the subjects I guess? Or write instructions down on paper and leave next to printer? Like the fact that it connects to Google Cloud Print. I use this feature often and it was a big selling point to me.

Fulfills my needs - works flawlessly
I was hesitant to purchase after reading comments about not being to print due to deep sleep and not waking up. I use with a MacBook Pro 2016 & a PC with windows 7 and have absolutely no problems with waking up. All functions described in the description from Brother work as described. I am very pleased with print quality. The only con I have is that when using the automatic document feeder the copies or scans come out slightly skewed. I can live with that issue though, thus removed one Star from excellent rating.
I also have a Canon inkjet AIO. I have already paid for this purchase in ink savings.

Prints well when it can stay connected to Wi-Fi
Toner lasts longer than expected but this is my first laser printer so my expectations were low/open. The documents printed are crisp and professional. It's not very quiet but at least I can tell that it's printing when I'm further away from it. It doesn't stay connected to my wifi and reconfiguring it everytime I need to use it is infuriating. Troubleshooting didn't fix the issue. Other than that, it's great!

I ordered this specifically because it prints ONLY black and white. I got so tired of printers that print color, when I don't need it, the ink dries out and you need to replace it and it's costly... Finally an all black cartridge, prints great, double sided, has alot of paper, also scans (had to return another one I bought cause it did not scan).. this is PERFECT.

Some good features, some inadequate
I like being able to choose a document on my computer desktop and hit the "print" command on my computer, and the printer immediately wakes itself up and prints it. I dislike the fact that this machine will allow me to scan a document but will not create a digitized version which could be searched for keywords or copy/pasted into another document. I wish I could scan a text document and get text, not get only a photo. Also, I regret that the instructions do not explain what is the purpose of the document feeder on top of the machine: do you use it to insert a document to be scanned or copied, or do you use it to insert blank paper for printing copies -- a "stupid" question I suppose, but it would be nice for the user manual to explain it.

Excellent Home Office Printer
I purchased this to replace an aging Brother printer that was starting to fade, after 7 years, so I am sold on the Brother brand. This machine has features the old one did not have, like the wifi connection, that made it a no brainier for me.Brother printer toner is considerably cheaper than other brands, which is why I switched years ago. I have never been disappointed in the performance of the old machine or this new one. This printer is very quiet compared to the old one.For the money you will not find a better printer, or print quality.

Could Be Better
The Goods: Print quality is great. Toner life is excellent. Wi-Fi feature works really well.
The Bads: Should be able to scan with just one press of a button, not 3 or 4. I found the set up not to be very intuitive, but I am not the most techy guy in the world either.
The Ugly: I can't get it to print more than one page on legal sized paper without it saying it is jammed. It is not jammed, it just won't feed the second page.

Simple and straightforward
I bought this printer because it was a good value and it had Wi-Fi printing. I’m impressed that it prints both sides of the paper in such a compact format and us copies. I’ve had some issues with the Wi-Fi but they seem to have ironed out. I think they might have something to do with windows rather than the printer software.

A great value!
This printer/scanner/copier is a great value. It is right in the sweet spot. I've had no problems configuring and using it. I use Windows 10, and Linux Mint 18.3 I've got the printer to work with a usb connection on Linux and it works wirelessly with Windows. I think I might get it to work wirelessly with Linux if I work at it some more. It will scan color images, but prints black and white, so don't get confused. My biggest gripe is the glare off the screen cover makes it difficult to read. It does everything it is supposed to and it performs up to my standards.

Excellent choice!
I have two of these printers ... one at my office and one at home. They are very good. I have found that I seldom actually need color. For those few pages where it is needed, I just email it to a local copy shop. That is much, much cheaper than feeding an inkjet printer hundreds of dollars for ink cartridges.
The document feeder works really, really well. It is *extremely* unusual for there to be any problems.
Quick and easy wireless setup.
Extremely long life on toner cartridges and the replacement cost is very fair.

Annoying
If it weren't for this product constantly disconnecting from the network, I would give it 5 stars. It doesn't seem to stay connected or is "sleeping" when it should be working just fine. I've checked my network every time this happens, and every time it's the printer. Some days it works, some it doesn't, without explanation. There is really no point of having the product if it never works as claimed, not to mention the help desk is not 24/7 so I can't have the issue resolved to get any work done.

The printer was easy to set up with WiFi. I like the duplex operation because it eliminates having to manually reverse pages to print front and back. Because it is a laser printer I'm hoping to save money from the use of toner cartridges opposed to ink that I used in my old printer. I have enjoyed using this printer due to its easy operation. Good Printer with Minor Quirk
I bought this printer to help ease the household workload. I am a graphic designer, my wife is a school teacher, and I have a daughter in the 11th grade. We need to print all the time from multiple devices. I saw this printer and it had it everything we needed --- including Airprint --- to get us through a typical day. Set up was easy and printing is fast. The scanner is decent for a built in scanner and handles my wife's and daughter's needs as well as 90% of my scanning needs. I have only two real complaints: First --- though the printer prints on legal (8.5 x 14) paper, it does not duplex. I was very dissappointed in that. Second --- if we go a couple of days without using the printer it drops off the network. I haven't experienced it from my MacBook Pro or connected device, but my wife says her work issued MacBook Pro sometimes has problems printing even though it still shows up on the network. However, all I have to do is to power down and restart the printer.

Hard working printer
I bought this printer to help me with my manuscript and I am pleased with it except for one matter. I cannot get it to print a series of pages, say pages 2 through 4 out of a one hundred page document. It will print one page or all pages, but nothing else.

best value for the money -- my son and I love it!
I was first introduced to this printer/scanner/copier when my former employer sent it for me to use for work; once my employment with them ended, I had to send it back to them. But with my new job, and my son in college living at home, I knew I wanted the exact same machine, and we got lucky because this one is wireless -- my son and I both love it!

Great features, but I hate it.
This printer has caused us nothing but grief. I guess it's designed to go to sleep when not in use. When we use it, we have to turn it off and on again, but that in itself doesn't always work. We sometimes have to remove it from the printer list and reinstall it, etc.

Excellent Printer and Scanner
Have used the machine for several weeks. No problems. Prints fast producing a great printed page. Only issue I have had is learning to start the printer when it has been in "deep sleep" state. Had to shut down the entire system and restart. This solved my problem. I believe the Wifi was the real issue in this case, not the printer.

I replaced an HP Inkjet color printer with this printer as I printed color copies rarely but the ink was still more expensive than I preferred. because it cleaned the jets, etc., with color ink. I LOVE printing with this printer. It is trouble-free and I love the ease with which I can print 2-sided, collate, document feed, etc. And I haven't missed printing in color and will take any color printing I need in the future to the litho store.

Very finicky. Scanner won't work
This machine often loses internet connection even when all of the computers are online. Now it doesn't scan. We tried resetting with no luck. It's only 5 months old.
This is the 2nd Brothers printer I purchased . The other 2470 was just as finicky. I think it will be the last.

On & Off features
I found the pricing and features to be to my liking with one exception. The On is a single button push and a brief warmup period. The timing and need for a darkening of the screen is bothersome as it requires attention to see if the printer is ON. The Off feature should be a single 3 pushes on the button rather than a hold down for a few seconds after determining that the printer is ON. The electricity savings for the screen darkening is too minimal to be worth while.

A workhorse during our peak period, monthly financials, tax prep deadlines school and work assignments.
Less costly than my HP’s printers, just as durable. Supplies accessible at Walmart, OfficeDepot, SAMS and Costco.

Nice compact all in one.
Straightforward operation. Glad to be able to get a printer, scanner, & copier without an obsolete fax. Overall pleased but: Have to hold on/ff button down for 3 seconds to turn off; Noisy; If item being copied has less than 1/4" margin, it will cut off so have to manually copy & shift paper on glass; single use paper feeder only allows for a single sheet and no extra support for legal paper like on my HL5370 so I kept it for that.

Very nice MFC
I like this MFC. I have used various Brother products in the past so I was expecting a good product and that is what I got. It prints well and I love the auto feeder for copying and scanning. I have not set it up for receiving print requests from tablet/smart phone devices yet, but I plan to try that functionality out. An HP I have did not work as advertised with those devices. I'm hopeful Brother's will. The printer is a bit noisy, but that is partly due to it being set right next to me. The sound level is not that bad for me, but I know there are more finicky people than I out there.

Happy Customer
Purchased to replace older brother with no iprint. Easy set up. Problem with iprint with my iPad. Called customer support. Left my number. Called me back in less than a minute! Got me going quickly. Iprint worked intermittently. Changed some settings( don't remember what) and it works flawlessly. Convenient to print wirelessly from IPad, computer, Samsung or Apple phones when anywhere in the house. High capacity toner is reasonable priced. If you have been spoon fed all your life don't buy. It has to be taken out of the box and plugged in. Seems to me to be a problem for a lot of people. I'm old and believe to succeed at anything requires some effort. If this does not apply to you then you cannot beat this printer for the price.

basically ok - but confusing
I love Brother products but this one is more confusing to use than necessary. I also got a bad toner cartridge (tho they have said they will replace it. But there are too many things that make no (or little) sense. Two-sided pdf doesn't seem to be possible, and I still can't figure out what the "scan" button does. Things that seem logical are not the answer to how things are done. Sigh. My first lemon Brother.

Great value
Coming from inkjet works, this is amazing. Prints fast, has all the capabilities inkjet multifunctional printers have (minus color), but don't have to buy cartridges every couple months. Felt like it was such a rip off with having to have a working color cartridge on inkjet just to calibrate the black and white one. With Lasers, no calibrations, printers just work. In general, it feels like I am in the office and using a professional printer. Don't have to print at work anymore to get good and fast printouts.
The only minus I have for this printer is that it is sort of bulky compared to inkjets.

Everything I hoped it would be
I wanted a multi-function printer, but I really only needed one that copied, printed, and scanned - this printer was everything that I needed! The copy and print quality is good, the scanner function works great, and the compatibility with Windows 10 has been flawless. I use the printer to mainly for work and school, the double sided printing works great, the printer is fast, and I also print checks without issue. The only criticism I have is that I wish the included software package had a better scanner app, but I use Adobe to manage my scanning and there have been no issues what so ever. For printing and scanning, this has been a great printer, and most importantly, the price was right!

Love the Self Feed Feature
This is my third Brother laser. Wore the first one out. The second one still operates well except it missfeeds and jams. I think this is because I use a lot of heavy stock (business cards, raffle tickets, etc.. The pickup fingers must be bent. When I bought this third one I got the self feed feature. It is so nice to be able to stack several pages in the tray. press the copy button and let Brother do the work. It's a shame that a small issue such as the damaged pickup fingers on my second Brother can't be repaired inexpensively.

Best Purchase Ever(Honestly)
I was in need of a printer of some sort, and was turned on by the idea of a laser printer, I only needed black and white documents primarily for school and my bank records, etc. I also was in the market for a printer with the automatic document feeder which this one has.
I am SO impressed with the printing speeds, having just upgraded from a 2 MINUTES per PAGE, this 30+ PAGES per MINUTE is just night and day!
The scanning capabilities are amazing(1200 dpi, color as well)
A cool bonus is the wifi ability. After having installed the toner and removed all the tape, plugging it into the wall for power, I was able to download their app and print directly from my phone, a cool feature to have when you need it.
Maybe it's just been forever since I've bought a printer but to have the amount of features this thing has, the perks of high print speeds and capacity a laser printer offers, and the quality prints Brother offers I highly doubt I'm ever going back to inkjet nor any other company for that matter. This product has changed the way I look at all printers and Brother, you have earned yourself a customer for life.

If you need wireless, this isn't for you!
I thought I would be cheap and go back to plain old black and white laser printer. I got the printer into my Mac no problem. I was good until the second it went to sleep and I sent another print job. After I sent a 2nd job the wireless printing stopped and wouldn't work. Tried restarting the computer and the printer, nothing. I used an ethernet cable, which worked. This machine is not user friendly, especially when making copies and the copy quality is horrible. Everything, and I mean everything, I copied turned out really dark. Sometimes the copies were so dark you couldn't see anything. I tried changing the contrast and it didn't change the copy quality. I did call support and they were of no help. The support is overseas and hard to understand, which is also disappointing. This was the last time I will purchase a Brother. I tried an inkjet from them and I disliked that too. I ended up selling this printer to buy one I liked.

It's a great printer
Hi if you are setting the printer to operate with an apple product first make sure your system is running on at least 10.7. My software was 10.5.8 so before doing anything I had to update my computer. I explained my situation to Apple and they walked me through the easy steps. Now you could follow the directions to connect your brothers printer. Customer service is easy , fast and was a great help. Don't hesitate to call them and it will make the process that much easier. The unit functions well in most modes. However, when multiple sheets are placed in the feed tray the scan seems to periodically hang up, especially when using legal sized pages. The message indicates the printer is “scanning” but the unit ceases to do anything else. When I abort the process by cancelling the operation, all the pages feed through the system indicating that the mechanical auto-feed is working. On occasion I am able to overcome the problem by shutting down the printer and starting it again (rebooting), but that does not always work. I am also surprised at how long the scan process takes for pages that contain content other than simple printed text (i.e. images, tables, etc.). Short of these “quirks” the unit operates well in both the manual and wireless modes.

Quality product.
The last Brother printer I owned, an MFC, lasted for years and gave me great service. I must have put between 8 and 10 boxes (10 reams per box) through it and it still works fine. The only reason I recently had to replace it with a new printer is that the old printer was so old that there was not a driver available for it for my new Apple computer and operating system. The new printer works great and will hopefully last just as long as did my previous one.

Good, but . . .
I replaced another similar Brother printer / scanner with this one. It has the same good features as the old one - reliable, economical. It also has the prior version's defects - the special features are impossible to understand and operate. In particular, where I am going to make multiple copies of a multi-page document, I want to make it Stack, which means that each set will come out Page 1, 2, 3 and 4. Then Page 1, 2, 3, 4. I try to make it do that, and I get other menues and departments, and strange messages. So I have to accept all Page 1s, then all Page 2s, and so forth, and manually sort them out.

we have a Brother laser printer which has been working great for a couple of years. it doesn't copy or scan, so when our Officejet went out, we found this Brother DCP which would print from computer, copy and scan and save us from expensive ink cartridges.

Great product
I just started using it a couple of days ago and so far it works great. I love the duplex capability and that's what attracted me the most because I print a lot and being able to print duplex copies is a great feature for me.
The only thing a bit different than my old MFC is that this one is a bit more noisy. Nothing outrageous but noticeable.

I really like Brother equipment.
My coworkers like the speed and functionality of this all-in-one. We have it networked and it has demonstrated total reliability whether used remotely or locally. The software is easy to setup and use as well.
I have bought several Brother printers for my company over the past three years and everyone is happy with them.

Would be ok for at home. We purchased 2 for our office. They ran out of toner way too fast- even using the higher yield cartridges. Were kind of slow to print. After 2 months we purchased a commercial grade all in one from a local office supply store.

robust basics
I usually ignore requests to review. I was thinking back to the late 90s when my modern dive into computing began. The printer history is nothing shy of hilarious, frustrating and bordering idolatry. When push came to shove, rare occasion for at home.. something failed.
Until this Brother printer. My greatest purchase for printing and scanning ever. I wanted this model for not having a fax, and being the biggest without one. I have some predictions about papers gone digital, passed around the net.. this printer fulfills my thoughts.

The best Brother printer ever!
I am pretty loyal to Brother printers because they are easy to use and last a long time. I was in need of an upgrade because I wanted an all-in-one so I could work from home more often. This printer is exactly what I needed. I love that I can scan a document from my computer or just press one button on the printer and scan from there. I love that it's wireless. I set it up in another part of my house leaving more space on my desk. I can't rave enough about this printer, this was a really smart purchase on my part!

Great Printer!
I was originally planning to get another inkjet printer but after researching and talking with store sales techs, I decided to explore a laser printer instead. I'm glad I did. Most of my printing is text, so I didn't feel a need for color printing. Also, I loved the idea of not needing to constantly buy ink or having to change color ink to print black and white when I didn't need color. This printer is easy to use and prints well. Best of all, the toner can go for a long time before it needs to be replaced.

Great Multifunction Copier/Printer/Scanner/Fax
My previous b & w laser printer was also a Brother, model DCP-7020. I had it for 17 years. Toward the end, paper would jam in it frequently. It was an easy fix, but I got tired of clearing paper jams, so I sold it for about half of what I originally paid for it. And bought another Brother product, the DCP-L2540DW. It is an outstanding product that does everything well. And I have yet to have a paper jam! Thank you, Brother International, for making such a great product.

Great Copier/Scanner
The DCP-L2540DW is a great copier/scanner. It warms up fast and it scans and copies fast. Great value for the money. The only problem I had was that I bought it to use in a commercial truck. I am an over the road truck driver and I wanted a copier/scanner that was a laser type because ink cartridges dry up. I wasn't able to use it in the truck because of the voltage tolerance. I didn't return it because I really like it so i put it in my home office. I already had another brand color laser copier/scanner there, but it was so slow in every aspect. I ended up having to buy another ink printer for my truck, but I bought another Brother copier/scanner. So far the ink hasn't dried up on this one. Time will tell. I highly recommend the DCP-L2540DW for its cost, speed and cost of the consumables.

I love it. After suffering through two HP printers that ATE cartridges, I'm loving the black and white printer. The design is great–no tray sticking out like the HP–clean and easy to use. I'm scanning with ease, copying and printing. Set up was pretty easy as well. Not sure why others had problems with setting up wireless; just follow the steps as the setup walks you through it. The Brothers2540 was highly recommended. I was tired of buying ink for an inkjet printer when I don't use my printer for anything but script. However, I had to return this printer for as many times as the kind and proficient helpline aided me in connecting the printer to wifi...within a day, the printer forgot about the wifi. So, I had to call the helpline again. After about four times...I gave up and returned the printer.

Great Value, Great Product
I've been a Brother Owner for several years. This product is my third laser printer I owned. I had been looking for a good deal on a multi-function laser printer, however, most of the lower priced ones did not have wireless, or duplexing, and I did not want to spend more than $150, since I have four younger kids that aren't easy on electronics.
The Printer works great, and I have been very happy with the ability to copy, scan, print, with duplex ability. The wireless setup was easy to complete and the device is working great!

Decent Printer, but Loses WiFi Connection
The printer and scanner work well when they work. Scans and printed pages always work and look good. I've yet to have a paper jam. It has a relatively small footprint compared to other all-in-ones I've owned. Two-sided printing works well, which we like so paper isn't wasted. The only problem I have is that the WiFi connection is frequently lost, so my wife and daughter can't print from their notebook computers or phones. I have to recreate the WiFi connection before my family can print again because they don't know how to do it and it's a lot of steps to have to train them to reconnect the WiFi.

DCP-2540DW in use report
Bought this refurbished DCP-2540DW fom the Brother online store and have had a positive experience. First, I don't need FAX; in fact the previous MFC had become a nuisance with adds and offers that wasted paper. Second, I did not want to pay too much for copier-scanner-printer. Third, I'm familiar with Brother products and wanted to continue using something that works. Yes, I'm happy with this DCP-2540DW!

Exceptional Printer
For years I have relied on a brother laser printer and have always been pleased with these products. Having recently purchased the Brother DCP-L2540DW I can only say that this is an exceptional printer. The automatic duplexing is awesome and the reason I choose to replace my good working brother laser printer. Brother international must be commended on providing good quality printing at an affordable price. The printers are reliable, provide years of dependability, clear crisp copies and toner cost are minimal for a large amount of printing. Yes, I would definitely recommend a brother product for your printing needs.

Great all in one for the price. Supplies are easy to get. Works great for the most part. The Deep Sleep function presents issues at times where you cant print unless you turn the printer off and then back on. Printing from your smart phone or Google cloud print is almost impossible unless the printer is out of sleep mode. Have called brother and they said to do a firmware Upgrade, did that but issue has bot been resolved.

Not good with a MAC
After paying for two professional installations, no one was able to make it compatible with my Mac. Bottom line, Brother does not work well with Mac. I now own an HP and it instantly connects with my Mac. NO PROBLEMS. I really wanted this Brother to work, but it truly was NOT worth the headache. I wish I had my money back!

Very nice printer for the price. Easy to use. Set up was great. Happy to be done with inkjet printer and costs of replacing ink cartridges. The high output toner for this will last for some crazy amount of printing 2500-3000.

Disappointed
I am disappointed the toner doesn't last longer. It seems I have to replace it in 30 days or less. This model was selected because I thought it read 10,000 copies per toner cartridge. It must have been 10,000 per drum. I do not print anywhere near 10,000 each month.

New Opinion of Brother
Over the years I have refused to purchase Brother products because they were in my opinion "highly disposable". However I discovered the best little feature about this and other Brother printers and that is you can scan a pdf and make it secure with a password. If your company doesn't have secure email, at least you can password protect your documents to help with protecting personal data. I have had the machine for about 3 months and other than the toner doesn't last as long as my other printer products, it scans and prints beautifully. My opinion will only change if the product doesn't last.

Outstanding printer
I was in need of a way to print just black & white pages. I wanted to go Laser with the ability to copy & scan. Being an HP man forever, I took a look but came across this Brother at OfficeMax. Really glad I did too. I had ordered a Brother for my work office last Spring and have not regretted that decision. I have to admit, this was the easiest wireless printer I have ever set up. The printing is very crisp & clean and it is just the right size for my home office. This is being run by my Mac and the software set up was easy as well. I have recommended this unit to several friends already. Very good printer and an outstanding value.

Purchase
The DCP-L2540DW is the worse printer I have ever used. It won't print anything from the single page entry straight. The print is always crooked. I even had a new printer sent in exchange for the original without anything being different for printing from the single entry point. I will be sure to never purchase another Brother product. The customer service was the worst ever I have experienced.

Great....but....
So far, mostly love this printer. HOWEVER, I spend 95% of my time living in my RV, and it was very important for me to have a printer that would Print directly from computer to printer using a cable connection and no wi-fi, I was assured I could do this, and so far - no luck - and no answers. Would ONLY recommend if you never need to print in the manner suggested above.

Good printer
I bought this printer to replace another Brother MFC that was showing its age. I did not need the fax feature so I replaced it with something like it. It set up like the last one and produced excellent copies, printing and scans. It had one major problem, it would go to deep sleep and disconnect from my network. it refused to reconnect without a complete reset. After much discussion and messaging, it was decided it did have firmware problem and Brother was working on it. I left town for a week and shut down the whole system. When I returned, I repowered the system and the printer has worked perfectly ever since. I do not know if I changed a setting before I left and it did not apply until it restarted. I do not care. IT WORKS. I am very happy with the performance. It was a little noisy so I turned on the quiet setting and it is much better.

This printer/copier/scanner is exactly what I wanted and more. I have three computers in my work setting and they're wifi. It's outstanding to be able to scan a document and send it to the computer of choice and from there, I can e-mail, store, etc. Be sure to just download the drivers from the Brother site which is a lot faster than messing with the disk included with the printer. Great machine; great value.

Exactly what I wanted for my home office
I purchased this because I don't consistently use a printer and in the past every brand of ink jet printer would exhibit issues with drying out cartridges forcing me to perform cleanings to even print. I also wanted to use the printer on both a Windows and Linux system(s and have always had good luck having Brother drivers available for Linux. This printer is no exception. I also wanted the ability to duplex print to save paper. Well, this item meets all my requirements and was available at a price point I could afford. Having a copier/scanner and being wireless is just icing on the cake. Never an issue with prints and I even use it via the brother android printing application.

Best Printer I've Had
This printer was a gift from my son because they have several of these where he works and they all love it. The printer is super fast with consistent print quality, something I never had with my inkjet. And it converts to a straight path printer for heavier cardstock, again something my inkjet was sadly lacking. Overall, I love this printer.

Not completely compatible
I bought this printer to replace an old Brother printer that has jamming issues, but still need to use it as a scanner, because this new printer will not integrate with my desktop, that was upgraded to Windows 10. As a result I am printing using a direct connection, and not able to get the full functionality of this machine because of the said issue. I tried to call tech support, and they blamed my computer. This should not be happening, and now I may be forced to buy a new computer in order to get the full functionality out of this machine. I am very disappointed in this, I would recommend that anyone who buys this, makes sure they have a newer computer to hook it up to and check OS compatibility.

Good, reliable ,home multifunction machine
As a retired copier repairman I recommend this machine for black ink printing ,copying and scanning.
My primary use is scanning documents into my computer files. The software is Nuance Paperport which works well. The original feed mechanism is well built and reliable. Wireless connection means it can be placed anywhere . The basic copy engine has been around for a while, works well, very compact.
This model does not have fax which is seldom necessary as email attachments are so easy.

The cost of an ink jet was just too much, so I wanted a cheap laser that would keep my cost down and give me printouts I could file or mail. I am not an office, but I tend to print lots of pages all at once (I am an author with a series of books). This was a perfect solution.

Good Printer/copier/scan but not easy to wireless
Good Printer, copier and scanner but not easy to get wireless setup. I tried all functions looks O.K. Tried to make wireless setup, but, wi-fi button blinks for several minutes but at the end no connection. Router is just 2 ft away from printer, but, still did not find router. I used the ethernet cable to connect with router and it now part of my home network by connecting it to router through ethernet. Therefore, I am not worry about wireless any more, but, it should be easy set-up for wireless. I have seen other customers also have same issue. Therefore 4 stars.

An enjoyable machine
The Brother - DCP-L2540DW copier / scanner is a great machine. Print quality is excellent. Scanning is good. I have it hooked up to my network as a wireless printer and that allows me to put the copier anywhere in the house. In the past I have had a total of three ink-jet printers and hated them all because of the money I spent on ink only to see it dry up and clog the jets. Granted with this machine you don't get color but you can use it once in a blue moon and the toner is always as good as the day you put it in. Print your color photos at CVS.

Solid Device
I bought this device to replace an older all-in-one from a different manufacturer which didn't offer Windows 10 drivers. It gets moderately heavy use both printing and scanning.
My original 2540DW broke after about two weeks in that something happened to its wireless function. Everything else worked. Brother promptly shipped me a brand new (not refurbished) replacement unit.
As to use, one particularly nice feature is one where you can set up the printer to be quieter than normal. That does make the machine less noisy, but I think it's at the expense of speed. Good trade off, IMHO.
The scanner drivers (which work over networked connections) include both a WIA and TW driver. The TW driver is much better, automatically sensing when something is in the paper feeder, and defaulting to 8.5x11 for flatbed scanning. The WIA driver does neither of those things and is rather annoying.
The starter toner runs empty rather fast, but there is an optional setting you can set where the machine will continue running when it thinks the toner is low. It won't just stop printing on you. Shaking the toner will get a few more pages printed. I bought the high capacity toner to replace it, and it seems to be holding up well--no estimate yet on number of pages.
I've had no print jams and no scanner jams not caused by damaged paper. It is a bit sensitive to knowing the paper is in the scanner--you have to put it in just right.
Overall a pretty good device at a very good price.

I've had quite a few issues with this machine starting with it going offline often. It's not easy to get it back online. Reliable Printer
This unit prints very quickly and clearly. It does a great job copying too. I get a lot of use from the collate tab. I have yet to get the machine to hook up wirelessly and haven't had the time to work on that after trying to make the connection for an hour or so. As easily as everything else works with this I suspect it is just that I am missing some detail. It prints the successful wireless install paper but won't go ahead and connect to my router network. No problem with being hardwired to the computer though.
Scan works well but doesn't always send the scan to where I think it is going to go.
For the money it is a very reliable and fast printer.

We purchased the printer to do wedding invitations, response cards, etc. for our daughter's wedding.
The printer pixelated the cursive font, had inconsistent print quality on the better-than-average copies, and left toner "dots" all over most of the pages. We wasted about $80 of specially purchased cardstock.
We took the printer back for a refund and bought a Canon inkjet. It works beautifully!

It's loud but it works well
I don't want to print anything but sometimes you just have to so I bought this printer. Ink jet printers dry up when they sit for long periods then you have to go through the cleaning cycles and hope they work again. Laser printers not so much. And this thing hooks up to WIFI and Google Cloud Print so phones, tablets and laptops will print from anywhere. Plus it has a scanner not that I do much of that. It is loud though so if you need something quiet this isn't your printer. Other than that it's great.

Low quality, toner eater, feeder jambs
I had previously been impressed with my older model Brother MFC, however, I made the mistake of replacing it with this. It uses 2x as much toner (or the cartridge is smaller), and the document feeder frequently jambs up, making this the most stressful piece of equipment in my small office. I was looking for something small, and this was the smallest option for what I needed. Unfortunately it is very cheap too

My Brother black laser is cheaper, and it does a great job. Perfect printing every time. It would be nicer if it were smaller and lighter in weight. I would definitely recommend this printer.

Wireless printing
Firmware update was needed for wireless printing to work. Works great afterward. Only outstanding issue is that when it kicks on, it draws a lot of power and flickers the lights on the same 15amp circuit.

Great for price
I bought this particular model due to the sheet feeder. I liked it so much, I ended up buying another one to replace my old Samsung Multi Function. The only thing is the sleep feature sometimes does not wake up on settings. Mostly on my Windows 10 machine.

blue tooth is a cavity
The bluetooth looses its connection making it a pain. This is my second brother laser printer. I purchased this new brother printer printer because I needed a wireless setup (got tired of trying to make my older non-wireless printer wireless). I love everything about this printer except the bluetooth because it frequently looses the signal and it is not far away from the computer. Since the bluetooth is the reason I purchased the printer, I'm only happy until it loses connection -thus 3 stars. PS - name brand toner is a lot of money. If the after market guys can sell it at one fifth the price, Brother should come down on the price and make it more reasonable although then people might not buy the printer because the price would probably go up. Wow this as a rambling review sorry.

I wanted a wireless printer for home use for use with a laptop, in addition wanted a scanner with a document feeder with low operating cost and this printer has exceeded my expectations. I located the printer near my wireless router and connected using an Ethernet cable then found printer on my laptop. Later I downloaded the Brother App for my Android phone and again connecting was painless. Recommend this printer to a friend..

Extremely satified!
Not only was the DCP-L2549DW my first laser printer, but the first Brother product I have ever owned. I'm not a huge printer person. I prefer quality over quantity. I once had to use an HP printer day after day. My job required I use their products. Hands down, Brother manufactures quality products.

TEMPERMENTAL WITH APPLE PRODUCTS
I have owned numerous Brother printers that I have used for both Mac and Windows systems, and purchased this printer to work both operating systems in my home office. However, after purchasing the printer I learned that (unlike the 8910DW model, this model frequently disconnects and loses settings with Apple products, and the Airprint does not work for all applications, and is slow to respond to print jobs sent from Mac products. Therefore, if you wish to use a printer with Apple products, spend the extra money for the Brother 8910DW model.

My DCP-L2540DW is used on a boat... Its physical size is reasonably compact given the functions it can perform. In addition, it is able to perform all of the tasks that I need - I have even used some of the features that I did not expect to have use for!

Excellent
My second Brother Laser Printer, and this one is excellent, just like the first one is. It connected immediately on wifi; it prints very well, and quickly; it copies great; and when I need another printer, I will buy another Brother...
I had a couple Epson printers too, and I have spent more time cleaning heads than doing actual printing. It is amazing to me how good a Brother product is, and how poor another manufacturer's product is. e.g., I purchased an Epson WF over a year ago, and it has never worked properly. I use tons of ink cleaning heads... It has been replaced twice on warranty, yes, I'm on my third printer, but what good is a warranty when the replacements are also duds? And, the replacements are refurbished, not new. i.e., I paid for a new printer, and under warranty I keep receiving refurbished, but still non-functional, printers...
I will buy nothing but Brother in the future!

Good luck with one out of two
I have one of these printers at my home in FL, so bought one for home in IL. One in IL worked OK for a few weeks and then lost WIFI connectivity. Getting it to connect initially was hard. Could not get it to connect to WIFI again. I have not had this problem with other WIFI devices. Gave up playing around with it and stuck it in the basement and hooked up old printer to get printing done before trip. Had to head south. Will try again next time I'm home at Xmas. Printer in FL works great. Ready to throw printer in IL out the window.

Big Features Small Investment
Okay, it's only B&W, but works great. For home use it has excellent quality printing, plenty fast, sits in another room and Wi-Fi printing works well. All features perform as advertised. I had to buy a plastic dust cover (doesn't come with one which was no big deal. It was real easy to set up, and does need some shelf space, but what multi-function printer doesn't. I've been using it for 11 months now. It's a really good printer for the economical cost.

Great all in one printer
I switched from an ink jet printer to this laser jet printer and I am very happy with its performance. The print quality is very good even on the save toner mode. I've already used it to scan and copy and it works very great. My hope is that the toner will not dry up like the ink jet cartridges did and will last much longer. The only difficulty I experienced was setting up the printer for a wireless connection; it was more difficult than it needed to be and would constantly print out a page of information about the printer not being recognized ( a waste of a lot of paper). Once connected, there seems to be no problems.

When working it is great!
I already have the wired version of this printer, so I thought the wireless would be a step up. Very confusing to re-connect when it got off-line. I made phone calls to Brother, used chat lines etc. Like any other wireless product that depends on a router, it will go off line once in a while. Finally after much trial and error I restored the connection, but don't even remember how I did it. Dreading the next time it goes off line. I guess if your are younger and more computer literate, re-connecting wouldn't be such a chore.

My first laser. This printer is awesome. Fast as the Big Machine at work. Toner lasts forever. Sick of replacing expensive ink on my inkjets. I use the printer so rarely and the ink was always dried up on my inkjets. started using a print company and USB stick but this is much more convenient.

Great Performance
Crisp printing with trouble free performance.
So nice not to have to put up with a mandatory, 15 line, printed receipt with every document that I create as I did with HP.

Practical and Reliable
This is our third Brother machine over a period of many years. We needed an extra machine without the fax feature, so this version is quite suitable and basic for our home office needs. It is extremely easy to set up and to operate. I would definitely recommend the functionality and reliability of this and other Brother models. In addition, the fact that you can call customer support for free is a real benefit. In all the years we've owned Brother printers I've only had to call once!

dissapointed
Wireless feature is a huge problem. We spent hours troubleshooting, and it would work for a few days and then stop, so we had to re-configure it over and over to get it to work again. Finally just decided to stop with the headache, and get a printer cable, but that defeats the purpose of why we got a new WIRELESS printer. Brother customer service was not great regarding this issue. Don't buy this if you are interested in wireless.

My Brother
My Brother DCP-L2540DW has performed every function I have attempted since my purchase of it, several months back. The print quality has been very good; I especially like the ability to print on both sides of the page, to save paper. Truthfully, I don't think I have scratched the surface regarding its potential to help me produce more effective documents. I certainly would recommend it to a friend.

I love the ability to do all in one machine. Copy, to the computer or to paper. Scan and print or directly to printer or email. I would only change the ability to scan only one side at a time with the auto feeder. It would make things even faster if it did double sided.

Good hardware - software needs work
I have owned several Brother printers over the years and I don't hesitate to buy another when the need arises. They get the job done and the price is right. My DCP-L2540DW is a step up and the hardware is very good just as I expected. However, the software needs work, especially the scanner software. It is not very intuitive or user-friendly. The scanner software on my Epson inkjet printer is far better. I hope Brother will put as much effort into the software as they have with the hardware.

Outstanding
This is the first Brother Printer I have owned and replaced a Canon Inkjet printer that failed to live up to my expectations. Right from the gitgo I was impressed by the Brother Printer. I wanted to set it up wirelessly and followed the simple instructions. I decided against using a USB cable, rather, opting to connect to my router wirelessly. The set up was so very simple and it connected straight away, much simpler than the Canon setup process. In use the Brother is quick and very quiet and based on my usage so far would certainly buy another Brother printer.

Pros and Cons
Pro: (1) Very fast printing for the price (2) three-in-one capability
Con: (1) took hours to install because of poorly worded and incomplete installation instructions and confusing messages on display screen (I was able to install an HP printer on another computer in 15 minutes) (2) controls not intuitive - after a month I still have to check manual to determine how to perform some functions (3) manual has gaps in information - uses terminology that is not defined (4) was unable to get cable connection to work and forced to go to wireless connection, but must leave unit on 24/7 because when I turn it off I need to rerun entire install procedure in order to reconnect.

Mostly good, could use improvement
Printer: Print quality and speed are good. Auto-duplex works well. Draws quite a bit of power, makes my lights flicker. A bit noisy but tolerable. The biggest complaint I have is that it shuts itself off on wireless network and won't wake up for print. I have to relocate it and hook up a wire to my router. Then everything works as it should.
Scanner: Works excellently. Set up the scan parameters at the computer, then feed the document, done!
Copier: Hasn't tried the ID copy function, but bravo for Brother thinking about this. Normal copy works fine.

Good but....!
In most respects, an excellent printer. Fast, clean printing and copying. What separates it from being excellent is the wifi. Scanning is definitely a stop-and-start process. Lots of having to switch off and reboot because the printer can't seem to hold a wifi signal for any length of time (and my printer is right next to my computer). Usually have to scan by opening the preferences and "open scanner". It's a hassle, but it gets the job done.

CONS:

My user experience with the DCP-L2540DW
Fairly solid machine for what it does. Mine is for home use. Don't need color and was tired of dealing with ink-jet ink. I use this one for copying, printing PDF and DOC files, screen prints, letters, minutes from Elks Lodge meetings, etc. I really like the double side print cabability. I use it almost daily, but lightly. Documents are clear and just as I expected. Only problem I have is that the machine has difficulty connecting to my Wi-Fi. To be fair, there are many walls between the printer and the router. Currently using printer cable, but will be hard-wiring eithernet cable to resolve. All-in all, I like the printer and am glad for the purchase. Don't know how it would perform under heavy use, but for me it is Great!

So far so good
I like my Brother MFC Laser. It prints quick. It's easy to make copies. Duplex print works well. I've printed quite a few pages and I'm still on the toner cartridge that came with the unit. Only one problem so far. Twice in the first month it seemed to lose the wireless network. I powered off the printer -- no help. Then powered off both the DSL modem with wireless and the printer. Then it reacquired the network. Hasn't happened again. I like it and would recommend it.

Good, dependable machine
I didn't shop around for a copier. I purchased this model because it was highly recommended to me by a satisfied customer, who did shop around before buying. I have not been disappointed. I use it mainly for simple one sided copies. I haven't tried out all of its functions yet. I dropped down one star only because I wish it would change font sizes when needed. Sometimes I like to make copies of articles that are very small in print size. However, it does have lots of features that I am enjoying very much.

I love this printer. It has saved me so much time, and using a high yield toner, so much money.
The only thing is, we've had it for a short while and randomly when I go to make copies it makes a weird loud/ high pitched noise.. And won't proceed with the copy... Not sure why. It stops shortly after canceling the copy and then I can resume as normal. It still prints wonderfully, dunno what the deal is. But I still love it, and so glad we made the purchase.
P.s. We use this quite often... We homeschool so I print and or copy alot!

I use this printer in my real estate business, and the automatic document feeder is great. I've already loaded 28-page appraisals and the output to PDF is fantastic. Good alignment, not skewed. Save money for toner, I've used the toner for testing came with the printer already 2 months still good. I've two college boys at home use printing a lot, so this really help saving money. Excellent Printer With 1 Critical Flaw
This printer is excellent in all respects except that it has a critical flaw.
It copies and scans with great quality, the printed pages themselves are excellent quality, duplex is a superb feature, the printer holds an entire ream in its paper tray which is convenient, and the toner cartridges are priced well and give really good value.
The critical flaw however, is the output tray. Even when fully extended the output tray only holds about 20 sheets of printed paper before overflowing all over the floor or the desk creating a disaster, and the necessity to run over to the printer every minute to grab what printed or suffer the consequences.
Does Brother make any kind of attachment for this printer that would allow it to say hold 100 printed pages at a time before overflowing?
It's a shame because I would have easily given this printer 5 stars except for this issue, and it would have been a heck of a cherry!

A wonderful purchase
I'm a home (non-critical) user, even though I had been in the publishing business for many years. I had extensive use of many expensive laser printers, but being retired I opted on economy. Surprise! This DCP-L2540DW Laser Multi-Function Copier with Wireless Networking and Duplex Printing is equal with, if not superior to anything I've ever used. Quite, Fast and Economical. I've only had it a few months, but so far, I really like it. I use it wirelessly, printing from two laptops and my tablet without any hiccups. I am partially disabled and find the printer invaluable for correspondence and other daily tasking.

Love Brother printers!!
This printer replaced a simple Brother printer that I inherited when I started this job, and that has been a workhorse for me for 7 years now. I couldn't be more satisfied with this 3-in-one! I have a similar model at home and am pretty much sold on this brand of printer because they have so far been very reliable and long-lived. A great bargain!

Great Printer
I have used only HP printers for at least 20 years. A new OS system necessitated replacing my HPs. I also was never satisfied with tech support.
I decided to go with Brother as a result of advertising and personal comments from friends of mine who had Brother printers.
My only disappointment with the Brother printers is the envelope processing approach. It is desirous to have my Brother laser printer on a turnstile in order to process an envelope. Really not practical. I have been laying out 8.5 by 11 paper to simulate a envelope. This way I can feed the envelope into the manual feed as usual, and have the printer process it as it would a 8.5 by 11 sheet. No need to turn the printer about 50 degrees in order to retrieve the envelope. Also, no need to use the paper path adjusters on the back if the printer.
Bottom line, I definitely made the right choice. I love the printer just the same.
I also have a Brother color ink-jet printer.
My selection below for mailing list inclusion is No because I am already on the mailing list. No need for multiple emails.

Excellent on ink
Copies much faster than my old copier, can stack or sort to make books, even thou I still haven't had time to read the manual to learn how to do 2-sided I'm sure it is not that difficult. I think it is just great for the price. Excellent on ink and I can get the ink cheap on-line.

Easy setup - excellent performance
With an iMac and Airport Extreme Base Station, ignoring PC instructions and following guide in the Airport resulted in setup on wireless network in seconds. Very cool. Performance and quality of output: excellent. Has stayed locked onto wireless no problem. Scanning wirelessly also an excellent feature, as is the two sided printing. No Cons.

It was very easy to setup, only took a few minutes before I was up and printing. Scanning is the only thing I have not mastered. When I scan a document with multiple pages, it scans with multiple pages instead of one PDF file.

Works Great but limited use to date
I was looking for a wireless laser printer for home use. This printer allows printing, copying and scanning. Copying works great. I have not used scanning. Printing also works great. Wireless setup is easy using wifi key on printer and wps key on router. Printer also has 2-side print capability. This also works well, but using properties (on computer print page) to setup 2-side print does not work. You must also use menu on printer to setup 2-side printing. Printer has been is use for 2 months with no issues and great prints. Gave printer of 4 because of limited use.

Great tech support
No matter how great the product, tech support is inevitable. I've had problems with my printer disconnecting from the wireless network three times now. The techies at Brothers seem to know their stuff. The first two times they reconnected my printer easily. This third time I was able to reconnect myself. Why? Because they isolated the problem and showed me why the printer lost the connection and how to recover. Each time the fault was with the network, not the printer.

Better than my high expectations
1) Takes the place of two pieces of office equipment - saves space and purchase price.
2) SW runs under the Windows System 7 O.S. My old Brother laser was functioning well until I was forced to change computer. Then the available drivers were incompatible with the installed O.S., System 7. [:-(
3) The print rate is at least double that of my older printer and automatic double-sided printing is both speedier and has been more reliable than the manual method that I was used to - so far.
4) I needed guidance from Brother and got it in a reasonable time (via CHAT) and the guidance apparently resolved my lack of understanding.
5) Manual feed works very well. Hand feeding of the paper stock (typically envelopes) controls the process (delays print) so that a single, print command from the computer application may be used to print multiple pieces.
6) I was briefly baffled by the failure of the paper tray to accommodate legal paper but an examination of the tray revealed a lock labeled for legal-size sheets. Didn't even have to refer to the instructions to understand the function [:-)
7) Good price at Amazon. I bought the extended warranty because this machine is so important in the office - does so much.
GOOD FEELINGS SO FAR

Awesome scanner and easy printing!
I bought this device to fill two roles. I needed a simple and easy scanner to digitize a massive volume and collection of old text documents. The automatic document feeder is a blessing and when combined with the flat bed scanner I can even scan some of the weird shaped documents and photos.
In addition I sell products online. I needed a reasonable priced printer that can print full sheet labels and purchase orders at a low cost. The DCP-L2540DW handles both tasks wonderfully. The wireless printing was an added bonus as far as I was concerned. With many years of IT experience under my belt I must also add that this was one of the easiest to setup and problem free printers I have dealt with. I use to say all printers are evil, this printer is the exception.

Easy installation. Lots of features. The only thing I would change is that it would print on the top surface of paper from the supply tray (to print sequential numbered checks, for example). I've had many printers (to include dot matrix in the past. For the last 10+ years I've used multi-function color devices and the problem I kept having was the color cartridges would "dry out" because of lack of use. Print Copy Scan
I wanted a multi functional printer and this one was priced right for me. Everything works well once you get it set up. The Wi Fy was not as easy as stated to set up. The set up disk would not install the scan features and I had to contact Brother support to get the software to install it. The Brother web site would not let me register my printer and again I had to contact support. Everything works as it should but Brother needs to update their web site and make more user friendly.

Prints double when more that 1 copy is selected
I went with brother because my previous printer the MFC-7420 had been great. This one started out great until I went to print two copies of a document and it printed out four. Thought I had entered the number of copies wrong but no. Called for support and got disconnected twice and the third time they told me to check with the software company of the program i was printing from ? I guess as long as the printer is printing brother figures the problem isn't theirs. I guess i am going to return this one and try somebody else.

The 1st unit arrived and it immediately ate the test page. Multiple attempt were made to correct to no avail. A call was made to customer service-they had me wipe the machine w/ warm water (chuckle) didn't work either resulting in sending out another machine. 2nd unit arrives-same result of eating paper. This resulted in the authorized service center dispatching a tech. to witness the machines actions. result-the tech took it to the shop to further diagnose and possibly issue machine-wide service bulletin. Fortunately-they uncovered the fluke on the drum unit. Brother and placed a decal on the spot that was initiating the paper bend up from the tray. 4 weeks later the machine seems to be working fine.

Issues with print quality
I like the speed and ease of use of this printer. I have found the print quality, however, not as good as my inkjet. An an example, I needed to print out my proof of auto insurance. It's a PDF file that has a mix of font faces. On the inkjet, it printed out fine--looked like the PDF. On this printer, some of the fonts came out grabbled. I made sure that the print was set to 600 DPI--it was--that I have the latest drivers--I did. I was really hoping that this printer would print better.

I bought this to replace an older Brother printer. It felt somewhat insubstantial as compared to the older one, but seems to work well. It has a relatively short foot print. It does duplex printing, which saves me paper. I have not used the fax function. It is very quick at printing. The print is crisp and clear.

Great Value
The directions are worthless, it doesn't work that way. You have to call helpline to set it up. The setup process they had me do failed several methods before one finally worked. I am sure the software and hardware involved are a cobble job!
But once you do that, everything seems to work fine. The savings over using a color lazer printer for all Black and white printing in black and white mode is significant, since color printers use up the 3 expensive color cartridges at a rate of about 3 colored per 2 black. And they make them so they wont work at all in black and white printing with any one or more color cartridges empty or missing

This Printer, Copier, Scanner, is simply GREAT!
The DCP-L2540DW has the usual great Brother design and superior craftsmanship. It was time to replace my old Cannon copier, but no one makes a simple copier any more. My old Brother printer was still great and going strong, but I could use a more handy scanner. Fax is not used or needed any more, and would complicate a multi function device. At a very reasonable price, this was the perfect choice. A single machine takes up less space. The document feeder feature is a bonus.

Mostly very good, nice options, reasonably priced
Very good copies and scans of text material. I like how fast it is, and that multiple pages come out stacked in correct order. One complaint is that I can't find a way of it not copying smudges, no matter what settings I use. Also, "contrast" doesn't do much, and seems to be opposite of clearer/subdued. Also, when you feed single sheets into the front, they tend to feed in crooked.

Great for the money
This printer is fast at 30ppm, toner is not to expensive, scans & copies and outputs nice looking pages. The only draw back is the output tray for printouts is small and the bottom tray does not hold a lot of paper at one time. The first time we hooked up the printer to our wireless router it connected and worked great the first day, when we arrived the next day it would not connect to the wireless router and have not been able to get it to connect so we just used a direct wire and connected it to an available port on our wireless router and we have not had any problems since, just can't use the wireless feature. Overall for the price this was a great buy. We are thinking of buying 2 more.

Laser printer, black only
Purchasing this printer is one of the smartest things I've done! I had an ink jet prior to this, and it guzzled messy ink cartridges at a very high rate of expensive consumption. I've had this Brother machine for a couple of months now and it has proven to be bullet proof, and produces beautiful, very high resolution, high contrast prints. It does a tremendous amount of prints per toner cartridge. The controls are easy to use, and installing it and its software was easy, even though I'm not computer proficient.
Great Product!

Very happy!
I purchased this printer because of good things that I'd heard about Brother laser printers. It comes on line and prints fast and does not entertain you for five minutes with all the noises that most ink color printers make when turning on, after all, time is money. Print quality is good, pages per minute is good, scanner is good, sheet feeder is good, I can't think of any cons. First thing I purchased was the extra capacity toner cartridge. I highly recommend this printer.

the Brother printer was easy to set up and has saved me a lot of money. I have a payday loan co. in Texas and each contract requires 42 pages to be printed. We were using a Cannon ink jet printer and it used 1 large ink cartridge for every 5 contracts.with the brother printer I order 3 toners and 1 drum for $68.00 and they will print 7,500 pages . the Cannon was using 1 cartridge per day or about $125.00 per week.if you do alot of printing the Brother is the printer you need

Good Printer
I'm happy with my purchase but there seems to be a software glitch because it would print wireless for awhile and then three times, it lost connection....nothing to do w/my internet connection...it was the printer communicating w/the wireless network. But I was extremely happy with the Brother software specialists techs. They were patient, professional and courteous and they fixed the problem. Maybe it has something to do with Windows 10 upgrade. Kudos to Rose and Valerie! Hope I don't need any more assistance.

Wifi Stinks
The wifi does not work while printing from my (and my wife's) iPhone. It was also intermittent printing from my computer, but that seems to have stabilized. On the phone for hours with both Brother and Apple, each pointing the finger at the other for not working. All I know is, my last printer worked just fine with our iPhones, this one does not. Not a huge issue, but it should just work without having to jump through so many hoops. It is also slow getting started up depending on which program I am trying to print from. Otherwise, a pretty good printer.

Easy to set up/use
I was looking for a pretty basic black ink printer/copier. I do not do a lot of printing or copying and wanted something simple and easy to use. I wanted a laser because I wanted the convenience of not having to worry about ink drying up, like an ink jet, because I don't print or copy much. Wireless and scan capabilities was a very nice bonus. Set up was easy just follow the instructions. Printing and copying is quick and scanning isn't too bad for a home unit. Recently, I have had to do quite a bit of printing, copying and scanning, very unusual, and this unit was great. Print/copy quality is great and the scanning you are offered options as to scan quality, page size, email, pdf...etc. Now I'm not much for using printers like this as I used to have my wife do a lot of this stuff on her printer. With this unit you would think I've been doing it all my life!!

Great but not plug and Play!
This printer, once setup, works beautifully and is just what we wanted. BUT, and it's a big one, it was very time consuming to set up. The printer would not stay connected over my router. It took two calls to the Brother support line to get it done. The first person seemed to have no idea about the problems. The second person was right on. But it required extensive set up and updating because of a known problem.
Fortunately, in my case, I have a modicum of computer savvy, and was able to be walked through the process by a talented support person. I can guarantee you that if my wife had run into this problem, the machine would have been returned the next day and our new printer would not have been a Brother.
Personally I am getting sick and tired of being used as a test bed. If the machine had a known problem, it should not have been shipped until fixed. In fact I have been asked to buy a printer for a friend. I want to recommend Brother, but because of my friend's limited computer skills, I am hesitant to do so. I simply do not want to go through this hassle a second time.
But, now that all is up to speed, we are very happy with this printer. So, subject to the frustrations expressed above, I do recommend this printer.

Love this printer/scanner!
I'm officially divorced of all inkjets! After setting this up, I tossed every one of our inkjet printers, three, into the e-cycle bin and gave away the spare cartridges at the office.
Warm up time after sitting is minimal, scanning is easy and pain-free. We do not have a landline, so haven't used the fax, so no comment on that function.
Connecting was a bit dicey for the first device, the tech was patient and guided me straight on through. Then hooked up every device we have, iPhones, Ipads, PCs, Laptops and now every device we have can scan or print.

Great for the money
The setup was a little more tedious than I expected partially because I work in MAC OS and Wireless network totally. I am also not the greatest tech savvy individual and it works 90% of the time so I guess I would rate it an easy setup. The power consumption appears High as the lights dim when it winds up(in the room that is), and the jury is out on toner life still. Cover/Lid seems a little stingy on quality and I hope that doesn't turn into a sore spot in the future.

Great as a printer & copier! Easy to set up and use. I particularly love the automatic two-side printing...no more taking the printed page one out and flipping it over to print page two. It prints both sides in one pass! Haven't figured out how to do that when making two sided copies yet, but I'll figure it out. Also, scanning not as simple as it was on my older Brother Laser Multi Function Printer. But, it works great for my needs.

Good multi-function laser printer
I use this printer a lot for duplex (2-sided printing & it works well. I have also used the scanner/copier features to digitize some of my financial records. I have two minor complaints. First, I don't like the power switch as well as the typical rocker switch found on other printers, including the other Brother printer I own, & you have to hold it down for 3-5 seconds to get it to power off. Second, I think the lid over the scanner assembly that has to be raised for manual scanning has a detent that makes it somewhat harder to close.

Beats an expensive color printer
Fast, great paper capacity, very easy to set up to home network, can do double sided copy or print at touch of button. Works great for us with both a pc and an apple computer. We kept our expensive ink color Canon printer on the network and can now choose between cheaper and faster b/w printer or the color. Very satisfied.

Great Little Printer!
It doesn't fax,but that's ok because I don't fax. It does print, copy, and scan great. It has wifi, but it drops the signal so I just bought a wire and all is well. Brother does need to fix this problem. It wakes from deep sleep pretty fast, and goes to sleep very fast. Very little noise when performing its functions. I rate it a 5 overall.....a 4 for the dropped wifi signal. I recommend this purchase if your using it at home.

Works well
The printer itself works great. The only complaint is that whenever it is "speaking" to the computer it does a loud beep. It also does this when it is processing the command I told it to do...like copy or scan.

Excellent printer
Easily the best printer I've owned. One more reason why Brother is my favorite company to buy printers/equipment from.
Quick installation, fast printing (laser). Wireless setup to print was painless.
Kind of bulky but totally worth it for what it can do.

Just What I needed!!!
I really needed a bigger printer and also one that didn't use as much ink as the smaller office printers. It does exactly what I needs it to do. I can't complain. I can't get it to print wireless yet but I'm sure I'll figure it out. It arrived a couple of days before expected so that was a good thing. I'm happy with it.

WI Fi refuses to work.
Nice laser printer. I spent a whole day trying the wireless feature to no avail. I plugged a new TV in and was getting wifi within minutes. Same for my other TV and same goes for 2 DVD players. Called Brother and was told it was the ISP fault. The internet service provider showed me where the "key" was but STILL DIDN'T WORK. I have to use a cable! I feel ripped off, Brother wants nothing to do with this and is quick to blame the ISP. In any case I DO NOT HAVE WIRELESS! Feel like I was ripped off.

I have had this printer for about 4 months and so far have been quite pleased. I encountered a little problems getting the wireless set up but has worked great since then. I do lots of duplexing to save paper and this printer does a great job.

Fantastic Product
Setup directions are clear and easy! Though I'm a systems manager, I believe majority of inexperienced users should be able to follow these directions and have the brother app and wireless connectivity within 30 min. Device does not have fax capability, but I didn't need that. It's much cheaper in the long run to utilize laser for occasional users because toner doesn't dry out like traditional ink will.

Great buy!
Easy setup, great scanner, copier and printer - reasonable price for toner - what more could one want. Got rid of my HP because of constant demand for ink cartridges - it was costing a fortune even though I didn't color print. Best decision ever. I sent my HP all in one (original cost $479) to printer heaven at the recycle center. Shame on you HP - will never buy their print products again!

Great features for printing, very poor at scanning
I bought this to use in my small office based on reviews. VERY disappointed that after 3 weeks I cannot use the scanner and support is abysmal. After reading more online, rather than just reviews, this is common in Brother machines.

Great Decision to Go Brother!!
Deciding whether to go HP or Brother and from InkJet to Laser Toner printing. DCPL-2540DW was a great decision and I am very pleased! Have years of knowing others that use Brother and now I can see why they are pleased customers. Software not as stylish but performs reliably and very well. I will recommend to all!

CANNOT BE USED WITH HL-L2380DW
I currently have printer indicated above. This cartridge does not work in this “older” printer. The company should know this. Not everyone can afford to replace a printer every few years. Why would a company do this to consumers. Just be honest and say we don’t support all of our printers.

Didn't work
I spent quite a bit of time with the customer support to try so the things that are in the booklet and which I had already tried, then bought their drum kit and did it all again, and it still doesn't work. Even tried a new print cartridge! I now need to scrap the printer, the cartridge, and the drum kit. Won't be buying another one of these I can tell you.

The previous drum unit became noisy sometime before the Replacement Warning appeared, but it never stopped making good copies. The machine quieted down with the new drum. This is a several-year-old refurbished machine that hasn't missed a beat.

Worked until 74% remaining
Never had a problem with Brother toners or drums, until now. The end of February I purchased a new Brother drum and toner (in store purchase). They worked fine, until recently. The "clean corona wire" notification kept popping up. I'd do it, it would be fine for 1 or 2 pages, then I'd have to do it again. Also, there were piles of toner in the drum. This never happened before. I checked the remaining life for the drum (74%) and the toner (it was low). Did I get a dud/2 duds, or is Brother's quality lower than it used to be?

Brother DRUM has 1/4 the life expected.
I use my laser printer for many small projects, but never abused. My drum states 86% life, and suddenly, after a print job I had horizontal lines across all my pages. I have gone through the process of cleaning the drum, the corona wire, and even attempted to find the "glass" that was suggested to be cleaned on the "roof" (could not find that on my unit. Didn't make any difference, and the drum itself has green pulling off the edges! Not sure I want to keep buying brother laser printers if I can't even get a full life cycle out of a DRUM!

Drum lasted 6 years though only about 3,000 pages
I guess it is kind of like an automobile warranty, 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Not complaining, as this has been a reliable printer for 6 years. Replaced drum and it works great. Almost decided on buying a new Brother printer as the drum is about half the price of a new printer, but bought the drum so I did not have to set up and configure a new printer.

Comes with ink
Rated fair because drum has ink but the approx 12,000 pages should be more like 300 pages. Unless you are printing one word per page then 12,000 would make sense.

Great
I have used mine for 6 years and used it. It’s black and white. It says replace photoconductor? I think that’s the drum? It shows the thing that holds in cartridge? I am not sure if I should get a new one or not. You can use Arthur ink if you want a generic brand. Mine got messed up cuz a paper jam. I don’t know if I should replace it or look at new ones. I just want black and white.

Needs replacing after 450 pages not 12,000
After 450 pages on regular document printing it is requesting a new drum. I have used the TN-450 in my old printer and it had far more capacity at half the price. If I have to spend $150 every 450 pages i will throw out the printer and get a new non-Brother one. too bad cause my last printer was great and had it for many years. It just can't scan to my new mac OS
