The Brother DS-940DW duplex and wireless compact mobile document scanner is ideally suited for on-the-go, small office/home office professionals featuring its compact, mobile design and simple workflow applications. The DS-940DW features single-pass duplex scanning and a color scan speed of up to 16ppm (Color and monochrome scan speed, letter size paper at 300dpi.) (a single page in as little as 4 seconds). This scanner can wirelessly scan to PC's, mobile devices, and with the Brother free iPrint&Scan app, scan to cloud services and network destinations.(Internet Connection and account with desired service required.) The DS-940DW is compatible with the way you work. Its compact size and mobility combined with fast scan speeds and image optimization features, make it a perfect fit for usage on the road, in the home or small office. Open the DSD (Desk Saving Design) scan lid on the Brother DS-940DW document scanner to reduce the space needed to operate the scanner. The Brother DSD saves up to 11 inches of desk space. (Based on Letter (8.5" x 11") size paper.)
The DS-940DW uses the Brother "iPrint&Scan for desktop" app. Not only does this app make setting scan settings and adjusting the output super easy but, it also eliminates the "lost document." Every scan initiated in the app goes directly to the app. The user then has the option of where to save the document, whether that be directly to their PC, to a network location or to the cloud. If a user often saves a certain type of document to the same location using the same scan settings, they can save it as a workflow and with one click the hardcopy document will be scanned and saved to the location and in the format the user wants. For added simplicity, the DS-940DW can scan directly to an installed micro SD card.(Additional purchase required.) With the DS-940DW also featuring scan to mass storage capabilities, a user can scan without installing any software on their PC. The scanned document goes to the SD card and the user's PC looks at the scanner itself as if it is the SD card. Simple.

Super hard to connect to anything
The battery is blinking orange and I've been trying and trying and trying to figure our what that means, but I cannot. Also, I cant find the printer anywhere on my Mac even though I have it plugged into USB... WHERE IS IT?? $200... There are so many numbers and letters on the back, so trying to connect to wifi is impossible.

Great buy for a mobile scanner
Great mobile scanner. I purchased this scanner in addition to my larger multi-purpose scanner printer in order to better scan receipts and have a small scanner for travel. My only criticism is a lack of compatibility with the ARM64 version of Windows. In order to use it with my MS Surface, I need to scan to the microSD card than copy to my Surface.

It broke after about two weeks. I spent over an hour on the phone with someone from Brother. They were able to fix it the first time, but a week later, I was no longer able to power it up. Fortunately, I was able to return it for a full refund.

Best Scanner for Receipts
This machine has been the best investment we have made. We run a non-profit rescue, and must keep track of receipts. For the first several years, we kept the physical receipts in little containers, but the printing on thermal receipts (which 90% of the receipts are) degrades with time - especially in a hot environment. We wanted to digitize, so I'd looked at several "mobile" receipt scanners before deciding to purchase this one. I am SO GLAD that I did.
We use the standard software - Brother iPrint&Scan - which could be a *little* more intuitive or perhaps come with a tutorial on how to set up the scan settings and workflows, but once you learn how to use it, it's amazing.
As you can imagine, after over ten years, we have A LOT of paper receipts. For record-keeping (IRS, tranparency, traceability of our foods, etc.) we need things sorted by year. The OLD method of scanning with a regular scanner involved sorting the receipts into piles by year, and placing on the glass, trying to get the lid on the scanner closed with the receipts in a flat position, OR taping them to - and wasting - paper. It took time and took up a LOT of workspace that we don't have in a TINY office area. Plus - all the scans went to a single folder, where I had to MANUALLY sort them by year by looking at each file to find the date of purchase.
With this Brother DSmobile DS-940DW scanner, I set up workflows for each year of receipts, by making a folder for that year and assigning that as the "scan to" destination. I can simply grab a pile of receipts, look at the receipt ONCE for the date, click the "one touch" workflow for the correct year, and scan the receipt. With that one click, the receipt is scanned into the correct folder at my selected settings, providing digitized receipts, easily! Since it scans so quickly, and automatically files them to the correct year, scanning huge piles of receipts has become a breeze!
Setting up the workflows took an investment in time, but has been totally worth it in timed saved when scanning. It's light and small so easy to stow out of the way when not in use, very helpful in a cramped, small office space.

Won't install
I got this scanner and it worked mostly OK with my old (windows 10) laptop, worked ok via wifi with my Samsung phone, if you can ignore the constant jams. Then I got a new laptop. After many email communications with Brother support I am no further ahead. It's already working with 2 other devices but that isn't enough for brother support who thinks it's perfectly OK to break office policy and install it on a third computer just to make sure it works because the other two previous devices aren't enough.
This scanner will not install. It's not an easy, simple, average Joe friendly product. The unit costs $200 and then $500 for additional support just to get it installed on your computer because you need to be an IT professional to attempt this installation.
Definitely go buy something else that isn't a brother product.

Very cool!
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. This is a great idea for a home office! We have used this portable scanner a handful of times already and it`s a very convenient way to scan documents on the go and have them sent to your mobile device or stored on your pc. It`s limited in that it`s kinda hard to scan a stack of documents, but for occasional use on the go, this is great.

Welcome To The Future
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. This machine is AMAZING!!! Throw away your old scanner. This scanner is from the future. The scanner scans 2 sides of a document at the same time, effortlessly, at the push of a button. You have the option to save the documents as a JPEG file as well as a PDF. You also can choose whether to scan as a grayscale image as well as color. The scanner comes with a wireless SSID that connects your mobile device to the scanner for documents on the go. It literally scans documents and uploads them to your mobile device. The Brother iPrint&Scan app puts you in control whether at home, in office or on the go. You can either upload the documents to your mobile device or save them to a microSD card for later use. It`s lightening fast. Like, seriously fast. I scan documents in as little as 6 seconds. The scanner also has a function that puts it into continuous scan mode for when you`re connected to your desktop or laptop computer. That allows the user to scan large amounts of documents at one time. It`s probably the most versatile document scanner in the world. I`m a huge fan of Brother products. I already have a printer that has scanning capabilities. This scanner has come into my home and has replaced our existing scanner. It seriously performs that well.

Great Product for Price!
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. I FOUND THE PRODUCT TO BE EASY TO STORE AND QUITE COMPACT FOR THE TYPES OF TASKS IT CAN PERFORM. IT WAS EASY TO USE AND DIDN`T TAKE UP MUCH SPACE IN MY OFFICE OR KITCHEN COUNTER, WHERE I INITIALLY PUT IT TOGETHER. I also enjoyed the fact that I can take it places and small enough to fit in a backpack or large bag.I liked that it was portable and the set up pamphlet was easy to follow. Not a lot of parts, just a USB cable and a calibration tool. The pricing was well priced given that it is wireless and compact. The scans themselves were crisp and of good quality. The gadget is also easily connects to laptops and PCs, which make it easy to share! One of my favorite things about the scanner are the adjustments to resolution and customization tools for PDFs such as adding a password to lock files. Ultimately, I think the only downside to the product is the lack of automatic feed requiring you to hand feed documents but honestly, for being a compact, mobile product- it isn`t a problem for me. I enjoyed scanning and customizing my files using the easy to see buttons and no nonsense design. Not cheap, but not expensive, but for how well it performs, good value!

Nice looking, compact scanner
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. When I opened the packaging, I was quite surprised at how small this scanner was (which is a good thing). It has a very nice, sleek design and a very simple but understandable user interface. The product is very capable of being carried around in a laptop bag. SETUPThere is a hardcopy of a quick setup guide that comes with the product, which explains the very basic functions for operating the scanner, but a more in-depth product manual is only available as an online document through the manufacturer`s website. I would prefer to at least have the ability to download a PDF version of the user manual to my computer and/or phone. I first tried using the scanner with my mobile phone connected over WiFi. You must download an app to your mobile phone to interact with the scanner when using this mode. Setting up the mobile connection was fairly straightforward and quick. I next tried using the scanner while directly connected to my computer via the supplied USB cable. You must download a software application to your computer to interact with the scanner in this mode. I had some minor issues with the computer software setup (it initially crashed, then I had to uninstall and reinstall the software). This issue was not related to the scanner itself. I have not had the chance to use the scanner in the external card mode. You need to purchase a separate MicroSD card to use in this mode.USE/SCANSI have been using this scanner for over a week now and so far the scanning has been quick, easy and high quality. You have several different options to choose from before scanning (1 or 2 sided; color or b&w; resolution; etc.) and several other options after scanning (how to send/save scan; file type; etc.). The scan process happens very quickly (a second or two for an 8.5 x 11 sheet). The final product has been very clear and sharp. The products internal battery can be charged when connected to a computer via USB. The product also runs on battery when not plugged in. I have not used it long enough without the plug to determine how long the internal battery lasts. The product appears to shutoff automatically after a certain amount of time of non-use. I`m not sure if there is a setting to change the automatic shutoff time.PROBLEMSI have not really run into any issues with the product except for the computer software installation. If you`re scanning anything larger than an 8.5 x 11, then this product will not work for you. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for mobile scanning capabilities, or even someone looking buy a scanner but wanted to save space.

Quick, light, independent portable scanner
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. I had the opportunity to work with the new DS-940DW mobile scanner. Overall, I was impressed with the features and capabilities. First, the scanner works independently and does not need to be hooked up to a computer to operate which is great for offsite meetings where you will need a signature but not your computer. To do this though, you need to have a micro SD card which is not included. This would have been a nice inclusion. The scanner is a single document feed and I had it scan approximately 12-15 pages per minute so it is quick but not designed to scan those 100 page documents. The size is relatively small. The best comparable I could think of is a 3 hold puncher with more of a rectangular shape. Overall the product was easy to install and use. I had read reviews of a previous generation that it was difficult to set up but my set up was a breeze with the included software. One thing I am missing is a sleeve or protective case for the scanner. I will need to find one as there is not an easy place to put it in my laptop bag I currently have. The scanner itself seemed pretty tough but with the investment and constant moving it would be nice to have a dedicated cover.

Quick Lightweight Convenient Scanner
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. This scanner is a nifty little gadget. It is lightweight and convenient and its features are fairly simple. It can be taken and used without a dedicated powercord thanks to the internal rechargeable battery. I have scanned many items and it does so quickly. This particular model does not come with the necessary sd-card that is necessary to access all features upon unboxing. So if you are buying it and want to use it at max functionality you must get the sd-card too. Once you have that though its pretty simple. Quality of scans are great and ease of use is a plus.

I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. The product connects easily. The image result is crisp and very clear. My favorite feature is how lightweight and compact it is. There was no assembly required. Product is much lighter and more compact than any I have ever used before and packs away easily. My expectations in quality standard were met in this product. I wouldn`t improve anything about this product or its features. It`s technology and usability are all I could expect in a mobile scanning device. Overall, I would say this product meets all my expectations including price, quality, and ease of use.

Beautiful scanner, flakey and frustrating to use
Conceptually this is a great product. It offers USB, SD card, and wireless scanning. However, the Brother DS-940W is infuriating to use.
- The bundled application, though it looks pretty, is cumbersome to set up and use. Moreover, it is unusably buggy. With every click and every scan I am prompted multiple times to acknowledge "cannot connect to localhost".
- The included cable is comically small such that it can only effectively be used in wireless mode.
- In wireless mode, the scan button does not work, forcing you to click on the buggy application to initiate a scan defeating half the point of it being wireless.
- The battery is effectively useless. Despite reading the documentation multiple times, I cannot tell if the battery LED is telling me it is charging, needs charging, or is just broken.
- If the finicky and fragile sheet feed fails to grasp the first millimeter of paper, it errors out and requires needless cajoling to resume operation.
It gets two stars instead of one because it looks nice. If you do not actually have to uses it, it is a nice scanner. It seems like a product that needed another year of testing and development but was sadly released to test on customers instead.

Only charges connected to PC. Partial Mac support
Not too bad but a little over priced. Battery won’t charge with charger. Charges only when plugged in to computer. The Mac software has less options than the Windows software.
It thinks there’s a jam when no paper is picked up or paper length is longer than expected. Have to open and close the scanner to clear the jam and it it’s so hard to open it feels like it’s going to break.
Really needs a way to clear the jam without opening the scanner, see charging status from software and webadmin and the software options should all be in one place.

Excellent scanner with awesome features!
This scanner was perfect for what I needed. I work for the City and they do not allow you to install software and hardware in their network. You have to have approval from IT which is never allowed.
This scanner is fast and quiet. I scanned 14 timesheets in 40 seconds. It can scan in .pdf and .jpeg formats. It scans in black and white or color. You do not need a computer because this scanner can save to a micro SD card, or to a computer via USB or Wifi. The software it came with is not the greatest and the PDF software is like a trial limited version. The instructions are terrible. If you are turning it on, short press the power button for a second. If you are turning it off, long press the power button and hold for at least 6 seconds before you let go. Otherwise it will drive you crazy with lights flashing and nothing happening. This scanner doesn't take up very much room on your desk. One thing you cannot do is scan an open book like a flat bed scanner. The page being scanned has to pass through the scanner, not unless you rip the page out of the book.
It cannot read a 128 GB card. The card I have in mine is 8GB and is more than enough. You can transfer your files into your computer using the scanner as an external drive.
The price is very affordable for the features it has. Do not forget to buy a protective case to protect your investment. I carry this scanner where ever I go.

Simple and easy
I don't think a scanner could be made any easier to use and it's perfect for documents.
Everybody that sees me use it is impressed and several of my co-workers have purchased one because of mine.
Two features that have room for improvement:
1. The default name is long, too long, and only the final digits are different. The names all look the same in File Explorer because there's not enough room (no, the name is too long.
2. Sometimes I get the exclamation point and don't know why. Turning the scanner off and on usually clears that.

Disappointing Portable Scanner
As a top model should be easier to get it working and regularly shows there's an issue that can rarely figure out what the problem is. Consistent difficulty with getting it to scan and once it is active there's an excessive delay before it will scan. Then trying to find it and place it elsewhere is not that friendly. So, a bit disappointed it is not as user friendly as I had hoped.

terrible, terrible machine
The software is beyond flaky -- it's just infuriating. I have extensive technical experience and it took me two hours to set this thing up. Some things just don't work as promised -- push scanning, for example, is a non-starter. The WiFi indicator blinks even when WiFi is connected. The software is 2004 standard, with unhelpful buttons like "Machine Settings" and "Machine Scan Settings" right next to each other.
Need I go on? Browse the incomprehensible Brother Web site for a while. It's a mishmash of outdated, wrong, and bizarrely wrong information.
This seems like a capable machine, but it's paired with truly terrible software.
