Hate I bought it. No longer a fan of Canon products.
Poor product. Ridiculous setup procedures. My fault I did not know it does not support Bluetooth which is weird for this day and age. Also, to sensitive to movement since the instruction warn you about handling the device.

CanoScan LiDE 400 Scan Resolution
Great product. Instruction Manual could be more user friendly, /jpg' resolution limited to 600 dpi. Fully scan capability only available in 'tiff' format for photos. 4800 dpi setting has not been found.

I like the size of the scanner... the hardware scans very nice images. However, the communications between the PC and the scanner seems to get lost once in awhile if you wait too long between scans. Restarting the application resolves the problem. Don't know if this is a hardware or a software issue. For the money... it can't be beat!

Works Well For Scanning My Illustrations
I primarily have been using this scanner to scan my illustrations so that I can digitally paint them and so far it has been great for my needs. It’s quick and light but, like almost all flatbed scanners, I wish that it felt more sturdy so that I felt confident that I could carry it around in a backpack without it breaking. But I can live with just using it at home and I also like that it only requires a single usb cable to work. I would say that I’m very happy with this scanner :-

Works great wit VueScan
I got it, followed the instructions to hook it up to my iMac with one exception I did not load the Canon software as I use VueScan. It works great with VueScan. If you have trouble with the Canon software try out VueScan.

CanoScan Lide400
It's ok. More cheaply built than my CanoScan 8800F. And, not apparently as easy to use.
There is not a single, thorough instruction booklet on the Canon website in PDF form so had to download info, page-by-page, and assemble. A truly thankless job!

Would have given 5 star but I haven't tried all the functions yet perfect size and a small amount of learning curve. Customer service was really great helping me with ordering. I just can't beleave how far they come with the new scanners!

Does as promised.
Very functional and does as promised. Did not give it 5 stars because of software. There should be one software package, not 2, that combines all the functionality under one roof. Learning which software package to use for a particular type of scan is taking longer than it should.

Works fine, only about 4x faster than my 15 year old scanner
Works fine, only about 4x faster than my LiDE 25 that was made 15 years ago. The technology only progresses at this rate? Had to upgrade because software has been discontinued for the old scanner. If the software wasn't discontinued I wouldn't have upgraded. So you win, Canon.

Cano Scanner LIDE 400 Review
This was a replacement for an older Canon scanner. It worked perfectly from the moment we set it up. Does what we expect. Great resolution and excellent color copies. The on screen menu is a little slow to come up but overall this is a great buy.

Outstanding value!
I purchased the scanner in early February, 2021. My wife and I use the LIDE 400 to scan photos and make copies of financial documents. Installation was quick and easy. Operation is straightforward. The software user-interface is intuitive, and -- for many applications -- it is possible to simply use the buttons on the front of the scanner. Given its low price, I was skeptical that the performance of the LIDE 400 would be satisfactory, but decided to take a chance. Glad I did.

It works!
Worked fine, I was leary buying this due to copyright laws, but my mom needed it and she sent her photos from the 1940's successfully. I was supposed to buy a printer with a built in scanner but I missed the boat on that one, and fixed it by buying a scanner after I had installed the printer. You can imagine how I felt when she wanted to scan and I tried to open the lid to suddenly realize that I had gotten a printer with no built in scanner! I didn't want to pay to return it so I kept it and thankfully found this scanner which will be a good tool to remind me to slow down and think before I scan something: to make sure that I don't copy anything that has the copyright logo on it unless I get permission first.

Easy and Great Value
The CanoScan Lide 400 scanner is a great value (money-wise as well as delivering a quality and clear result every single time. This scanner has the ability to option multiple pages; gives clear and concise prompts on how to do so. There are no codes to input or complicated instructions; simply load the scans facing down with the top of the scan toward the front of the scanner instead of the back of the scanner. Easy-peasy. Thanks for the easiest scanner I have ever encountered.

A great scanner for photos and for a great price
The system is easy to set up and takes a few minutes to learn the software. I am primarily using it to scan several decades of photos that I want to store in digital format. I find the colors are not quite true but the ease of having thousands of family photos (some going back to the late 19th and early 20th century is worth the tradeoff on color tone. The images come out clear and I am happy with it. I would have given it 5 stars if the colors were perfect.

Excellent quality scans.
I used this scanner very heavily immediately after getting it, making 2,600+ scans within a week for a high priority project. It worked extremely well, producing high quality scans. The software allows lots of useful options for adjusting the quality of the scan, the hard drive location for storing the files, etc. My only knock is it took a bit to figure out the scanning software but, once I did, I found this Canon scanner to be extremely useful. I recommend this unit highly.

Lasted Only a Year
I bought this scanner from 2018-2019 and used it often due to homeschooling. I stored it away in my room at the end of 2019 and now in September of 2020 I pulled it out to use it and it doesn't work. It lasted as long as it was under warranty. Now it's past the warranty date and I'm out of a scanner which only worked for a year. Do not buy.

IJ Utility Scan inferior to CanoScan Toolbox 5.0
We replaced a 600F with this 400. The scanner is more awkward to use, but acceptable. The IJ Scan Utility though is far inferior to the earlier CanoScan Toolbox 5.0. In the Toolbox all the settings I change regularly, mode, scan type and output file name are on one pop-up, not on a layer below. Also, I should have total control over the output file name. I should not have to remove date/sequence nbr every time I scan something. Both the hardware and software are a step backwards. If Canon had Windows 11 drivers for the 600F we would still be using a perfectly operating scanner and a well thought out interface.

It's okay - maybe expectations too high for this price point.
Instructions aren't clear on how to obtain the maximum resolution that this scanner is supposed to support. Included software for "stitching" scan was disappointing. It only works to combine two images side by side you apparently can't combine top and bottom (like to scan a legal document - hello. Granted I can scan most legal documents in my other sheet feeder scanner but I was hoping to use this flatbed for some old and really fragile items. Noisy even on "quiet" setting but seems to work fine.

Bad Linux Support
Linux support is minimal and had to hack around greatly to compile it. Proprietry libs required even in the source code version. Used Ubuntu 18.04LTS. Works. No options beyond "scan size" being A4/Letter to Jpeg or PDF. No options for resolution. Scan button. Scan quality is fine, but expect a troublesome utility that when it does work, you'll be editing in Gimp or so to turn it into something useful.
