Add an RS232 serial port with COM retention to your laptop or desktop computer through USB. The ICUSB2321F 1-Port USB to Serial RS232 Adapter Cable with FTDI chipset and COM Retention converts an available USB 1.1 or 2.0 port into an RS232 serial DB9 port to connect, monitor and control your serial devices. This compact adapter features COM retention, allowing the same COM port value to automatically be re-assigned to the port if the cable is disconnected and re-connected to the host computer, or if the system is rebooted. The ICUSB2321F uses the FTDI chipset which supports additional customization, advanced features, and compatibility not necessarily offered by other solutions. Compatibility with a broad list of Operating Systems including Windows, Windows CE, Mac OS and Linux, makes this product easy to integrate into mixed environments.

Rated 5 out of 5 byDeuxChevaux from Best serial-USB adapter I've usedAfter having multiple issues with cheap serial-USB adapters, we purchased this model because it has a FTDI chipset. The slightly higher price for this is totally justified. We haven't had any issues with the FTDI drivers on Windows XP, 7, or 8.

Rated 5 out of 5 byNikon Shooter from Worked FlawlesslyI was unable to upgrade firmware and/or control my iOptron mount with the KeySpan Tripp-Lite USB to Serial cable. It was suggested by iOptron that I get the FIDI cable instead. A member of our Astronomy club recommended Startech.....and the rest is history. I would not hesitate using this company for additional needs.

Rated 5 out of 5 bylajosgy from Professional product, compatible with industrial controlsWe have tried and failed with several other USB-RS232 adapters from local stores. This adapter has the FTDI chipset that we needed for compatibility. The COM port assignment can be easily changed in Device Manager and the assignment stays no matter how many times the system is restarted and even if the adapter is removed and later plugged into another USB port. The cable and the enclosure is high quality. It comes with good documentation and a CD with all the drivers. Packaging and whole appearance is very professional.

Rated 5 out of 5 byITProConsultant from Compatitable with all systems/devicesI've used this with Windows 7 - 10, Mac OS, and Linux and I have yet to have a compatibility issue. I've connected to multiple Cisco, HP, Dell, and various other vendor products and it has yet to have an issue. The old I/O cable I had (Prolific chip) would not work in Windows 10, and there were multiple devices it would not properly communicate with (lock up with Cisco devices). Also, when using the Prolific cable, if it was unplugged from the Mac terminal, it would crash the computer. So far, I have not had any other those issues with this device. It also seems to be very sturdy. My only complaint is that I could not get an answer on what type of serial driver chip is used in the device (it's a FTDI processor chip) as I would have liked to ensure that it was either a Maxim, Exar, or NI. However, it seems to be fine so far. Overall I would purchase this unit again as well as recommend it.
