Bi-directional adapter converts IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE. The PATA2SATA3 is a bi-directional SATA IDE adapter/converter that lets you connect a Serial ATA drive to a legacy IDE port, or an IDE drive to a SATA motherboard port.
A cost-effective solution for upgrading existing IDE systems to support SATA hard drives or optical drives, the SATA/IDE adapter eliminates the expense of having to purchase a controller card while saving the expansion slot that would be required for card installation.
In addition to SATA hard drive installation, the adapter can be reversed in order to connect older IDE drives to a newer SATA-enabled motherboard, making it easy to retrieve old files from a previous system.

Rated 5 out of 5 bySouthern Guy from Wont work in new HPI bought this adapter to transfer a WD-250GB to a new HP Z240 workstation. It isn't recognized. All cables are connected correctly and the Power Indicator on the Interface is lit. Hard drive spins up, but nothing is recognized by the computer. Not even in the Device Manager. No drivers to update and nothing else to change. I wont give it a Quality rating, since it doesn't work.

Rated 5 out of 5 byAndre721 from Worked fine. Just needed to fix my HDDI bought this because I had an old IDE hard drive laying around for years that I needed to clean the data out of. Here is something to keep in mind... if you are connecting an old IDE drive up, be sure that the jumpers are set properly (if applicable). For some odd reason, one of my jumpers was in the wrong position, so I thought the adapter wasn't working at first. Once I noticed the jumper and fixed it, everything worked fine.

Not having a system with IDE interface to connect the drive to, I needed the adapter to connect to a system with a SATA drive interface. The adapter worked perfectly.If the system that you intend to use this adapter in does not have a LP4 Molex 4 pin power connector for the IDE drive, you will need a SATA to LP4 Power Cable Adapter - F/M, which is StarTech product ID LP4SATAFM6IN.
