K-12 Networking Gets the Power and Cooling It Needs With APC
Read how APC and CDW helped a K-12 district deploy an updated power and cooling infrastructure to support its new networking equipment.

Can a K-12 district ensure a simple, safe networking power supply?
A REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
Uninterrupted Power With Uncomplicated Maintenance
The district had installed new networking equipment in intermediate distribution frame (IDF) closets, but its existing uninterrupted power supply units (UPS) failed to provide adequate cooling system runtime for a safe shutdown. The district asked CDW for help with an easily maintainable UPS solution that would provide sufficient power.
THE TURNING POINT
A Seamless, Multi-Site, 295-Unit Install in 45 Days
CDW conducted an onsite evaluation of the multiple-site infrastructure and looped in field teams from our partners at APC (UPS solutions) and Coastec (installation). A total of 295 new UPS units were recommended, including installation and recycling services, and CDW helped achieve full installation in just 45 days.
- CDW coordinated direct shipments to save time and storage space.
- Our partners provided rip, recycle and replace (RRR) services to recycle the UPS units being replaced.
- CDW recommended the district purchase APC Data Center Expert as an on-premises solution to monitor the new UPS units’ performance.
THE RESULTS
Pursuing Networking Goals With Confidence
The district now has the reassurance of knowing its networking cooling systems won’t be disrupted by a power outage.
Here’s why it worked:
- Our partners were able to install the UPS units both during and after school hours to ensure the project was completed on time.
- APC Data Center Expert lets the district’s IT team monitor all the UPS units via a single pane of glass.
- CDW coordinated the install with both partners to ensure compliance with the time frame and E-Rate cost eligibility.
What’s next?
With the install completed on time and within budget, the district can pursue its networking goals with complete confidence.
