Print Protection Provides Peace of Mind

HP’s new warranty options give organizations more flexibility in protecting their print investments.

When most people think of IT downtime, they imagine data center failures or network outages. But a problem with a print device can be nearly as disruptive, especially in industries such as finance, healthcare and law.

And yet, buyers often don’t think about needing warranty coverage at the time of purchase. At HP, we’ve found that organizations frequently approach us or our partners about extended warranties as their included one-year coverage is set to expire. But until recently, extended warranty coverage was available for only 90 days after purchase.

We changed that in 2024 with our Keep It Covered program, which allows customers to purchase extended warranty coverage at any point during the first year of a base warranty. The program also expands options for post-warranty care packages, giving organizations the option to protect their investments at many points during the lifecycle of their print devices.

Keep It Covered

Our previous warranties for print devices were less flexible than those for our PCs. Customers had only 90 days from the date of purchase to decide whether to extend warranty coverage for printers. If they missed that window, their only option was to purchase post-warranty care packages.

The new Keep It Covered program gives customers the option to purchase extended coverage at any point during the first year of print device ownership. The post-warranty purchase window has also been extended, now stretching from 90 days before the warranty expiration date to a full 180 days after that date.

Support When You Need It

HP’s warranty coverage includes around-the-clock support, with technical experts available 24/7 via phone to help troubleshoot issues. If onsite service is needed, a technician from HP or one of our partners will arrive the next business day with the necessary parts to complete the repair.

This level of support is more than just a convenience. Consider, for instance, a financial firm facing a year-end tax filing deadline. Without a working printer, junior accountants would be scrambling to find a 24-hour print shop. HP’s warranty can take what would otherwise be a business catastrophe and turn it into a mere speed bump.

Predictable Costs

Business and IT leaders spend a great deal of time and energy carefully planning their budgets. So, when an unexpected repair cost pops up, teams often need to scramble to cover the unplanned expense. By contrast, warranty protection gives organizations a single, upfront cost for all repair expenses, including parts and labor.

The cost of an HP Care Pack typically runs less than the cost of a single service call, and Care Packs provide predictable costs for up to five years of coverage — the length of a lifecycle for many print devices.

Better Use of Employee Time

When companies lack warranty coverage, employees may spend hours or even days trying to troubleshoot problems. Managers who want to avoid costly service calls may redirect internal teams to fix the issue themselves. Such efforts often end with the organization calling for service anyway, meaning the fix is delayed, and valuable employee time has been wasted. By eliminating both the cost and burden of printer repairs, extended warranties enable organizations to focus on what they do best: running the business.
