Rated 5 out of 5 by from Glad I upgradedI finally broke down and upgraded my UPS. I had a very good UPS from APC, but since I now use Mac OS 10.8.5, I could not make use of the old UPS. The old UPS did not have a usb port. Well, I did buy it new in 2003 and it worked fine with the older Mac OS 9.x. The new one has a usb port and works great so far. All I had to do was unpack it, open the battery cover, plug in the red connector, replace the cover and plug in the power cord and usb connection to my trusty old iMac. Other than possibly needing to replace the battery at some distant time, I am certain I will get a long life from this UPS.

My PC never went down when power was temporarily shut off and it even warned me when neutral and hot were reversed. Best yet, the unit runs cool. It's just well designed and I have five around the house and another six in my office protecting everything from switches, PCs, secuity and telephone systems.

We seem to get about 6 years + out of a unit before the batteries start to show signs of needing to be replaced. In our areas they are a necessity as we get power outages and spikes enough that without them there could be some serious damage or loss.

There have been four sort power failures since installation: one was for 18 seconds and the other three less than two seconds. No problems
