Great product
As for the initial performance, I would say this is doing great! The only minor concern is the color scan reduces the color quality and doesnt portrait the actual color grade.

Value priced, workhorse machine, easy to setup
This printer was within my office budget and checked all the boxes for a colour laser printer. the cartridges are probably where it excels as there are different yield cartridges so if you print a lot, there are Extra High Yield cartridges. I am a canon person and have the canon mfc642cdw and canon mfc632cdw, and this brother printer out performs the canon. It is a slight bit taller, but thinner than most MFC colour printers. Great machine, 5 stars on all fronts, Highly recommended.
The only con I have is the same issue across every brand colour laser out there: why dont they all come with a larger paper tray?

Good product terrible supply prices.
The equipment is great and would earn a five star except the price for supplies like ink toner cartridges drums etc is way to high and out of line.

Printer is great, until you need to repair it.
Printer is good, repair support is poor. Had to replace a damaged fusor roller. Brother support wasn't able to provide repair manual or parts, recommended I buy a new printer. Ended up researching, finding part online, finding repair guide online, and repairing myself.
Hardware design (except for toner) is difficult to access and replace.
Also, advanced settings on printer are intentionally obscure and hidden. Again, I was lucky to find a 3rd-party who documented the process. No chance I could have done it alone.
Repairability: 3/10
Print quality: 8/10
Scanning: 10/10

Immediate Refund Requested for Faulty Printer
We purchased this Brother MFC-L8900CDW printer in July 2024 for business use, expecting a reliable, high-quality machine to print our marketing materials. Unfortunately, it has been nothing but a source of frustration. From the very start, this printer has failed to meet even the most basic expectations.
1. Ongoing Technical Issues: The printer consistently fails to complete print jobs. Documents get stuck in the queue, and the only way to resolve it is by repeatedly unplugging the machine. This is highly disruptive to our workflow and completely unacceptable for a business-grade printer.
2. Unacceptable Print Quality: The quality of the prints, especially graphics, photos, and vector images, is terrible. The colors are misaligned, and images look unprofessional—far from the quality we need to create polished marketing materials. We bought this printer specifically to print flyers, but it has proven entirely unsuitable for that purpose. Colors that are supposed to be solid have lines in the print.
3. Toner Usage Misrepresentation: Despite the printer’s poor performance, we’ve gone through 3 yellow and 3 magenta toner cartridges in under 1,800 prints—much lower than Brother’s advertised 1,800-page yield per cartridge. This is a major cost burden and clearly a misrepresentation of the product’s capabilities.
4. Failed Replacement and Support: When we contacted Brother about these issues within the first 10 days, we were sent a replacement printer, but the problems persisted. This demonstrates that the fault lies with the product design, not a one-off defect. Brother has failed to stand by their product, offering no effective solutions despite repeated requests for support.
The Impact on Our Business:
1. Lost Revenue and Increased Costs: The poor print quality of our advertising materials is costing us money. We rely on professional-looking flyers to promote our services, but the output from this printer is so unprofessional that it reflects poorly on our business. This has resulted in missed opportunities and lost customers.
2. Repeated Attempts to Resolve the Issue: We have made several attempts to rectify this problem with Brother over the past three months. Despite this, the issues remain unresolved. The replacement printer didn’t fix the problems, and we are still experiencing the same frustrating malfunctions.
3. Significant Time and Effort Wasted: I personally have spent over 40 hours trying to troubleshoot and fix the print jobs. This has been a huge drain on my time, and instead of focusing on running our business and serving customers, I am stuck dealing with a printer that simply doesn’t work as advertised.
Request for Full Refund and Compensation
In addition to a full refund for the printer, we are also requesting compensation for the significant amount of time and money we have lost due to this defective product. The countless hours spent troubleshooting, along with the lost revenue from failed print jobs and missed business opportunities, have severely impacted our operations. We believe Brother should compensate us for these losses in addition to refunding the full purchase price of the printer.
Our previous printer, which was an older model from a different brand and over 10 years old, delivered professional-quality prints consistently up until the day the CPU needed to be replaced. Switching to Brother has resulted in a significant decline in both print quality and business productivity. Brother’s inability or unwillingness to address these issues has left us with no other option but to demand a FULL REFUND and additional compensation. We have lost immeasurable amounts of clients due to the horrible and unprofessional print quality from this printer.
This printer is simply not the reliable, high-quality product that Brother advertises. We urge Brother to acknowledge this and process both the refund and compensation without delay.

Spectacular Value-Superior Quality and Reliability
I purchased the L8900 as a replacement for two older printers that I was using: a 13 year old B&W laser that was super reliable and an eight year old MF color inkjet. We recently moved and this was a great excuse to buy one modern unit to save space and get more current technology.
I was certain that the replacement would be a MF inkjet. However, after lots of research, the Brother L8900 rose to the top of the list for a number of reasons:
1 Large, easy read interactive display
2) Great reviews supporting reliability
3) 70 page 2 side document feeder
4) Laser quality
5) Scanning and copying ease
6) Flawless wireless over wifi and AirPrint
We do not need a fax
We have been using the unit regularly at home/home office and it has been rock solid. In fact, last week I presented a client with a draft presentation and they were blown away by the quality. I can't wait to use nicer paper and higher printing quality for the final!

Such a great printer - I bought 2
This is really an awesome printer for my home office. It works so well I bought a second one for my regular office and ditched the commercial rental copier that we thought we needed to run the office.
It really keeps up with the big boys; it’s not as fast as the commercial machine but it’s not slow either.
For the price, and the fact that it’s a color copier, you won’t be disappointed!

Absolutely horrible software
software is incapable of recognizing a printer that is already installed and working so I cant scan anything. I can try to reinstall the software but in a corporate setting with security on the network it doesnt find the printer, I can manually enter the IP address and it comes up but then it cant connect anyway. And you cant even uninstall the software short of manually deleting the 5 or 6 folders full of junk in your program files folders (have to stop some processes first, uninstall just plain doesnt work and windows doesnt list it in the programs list so you cant do that either (yes I tried run as administrator). Ridiculous, bad software kills an otherwise good product, yet again, f you

Could have had a little more support....
When we were setting up the machine to do what we needed to do I had some questions. From the website, I could not get to a live agent via phone and had to web chat which seemed to me take a lot more time than a live agent. It performs quietly however it is a lot slower than the last model we had. Print quality is good. Just wish I could have a support session for setting up the machine.

Does the job, never an issue, and great quality
Bought this printer for business use. Tired of having to mess around to get an inkjet to work for printing letters, mailings, etc... Have had other Brother printers and of those 3, only 1 gave me any issue. This makes my 4th Brother and it is in the catagory of no issues and works great !! Love the envelope printing, the paper drawer could be a little bigger to hold a whole ream, but otherwise it works and does so with little effort from the user.

I had an older model of the same machine and for the sake of economy I changed to another brand inkjet. I was never happy with that and went back to brother. I am so happy now. Much better quality of printout, double sided scan that I missed so muc with my other printer, quick and reliable for the amount of printing I need to do, which isn’t really all that much, but I’m much happier with the all round result.

My Dream Printer!!!
I have had this printer for 3 months and it has become instrumental in my son's (6th Grade) education. Schools today have done away with text books, rely on electronic files and web pages, and are prolific generators of special projects. This means that a lot of material will be introduced at school, but learned and mastered at home. This means tons of printing, scanning, copying. This means creating binders for the hundreds of pages of reference material. Creating exhibits, posters, and displays (yes, in addition to projected PPT/Slide presentations). This means re-sizing, shaping, flipping, etc. This printer is one of the four most satisfying things in my house. It works flawlessly! I depend on it. I wish the toner was cheaper (or the counter could be reset) and that the paper tray held more sheets of paper.

Pretty good bang for the buck
The cost of this printer is better than most others in its class, while the feature set seems to be very comparable to the competition. Configuration of the printer is relatively painless, although we had to download the Brother printer driver/utilities for some systems rather than use the default Windows drivers. Our printer did die on us after 6 months, but Brother's customer support was very responsive and sent us a replacement printer within 2 business days.

Really like this printer - jus one pesky issue....
We purchased this printer at my work because I loved the prior version of it from Brother (MFC-L8850CDW) we had used previously, and wanted to continue with the quality I had experienced. It's been two months since we purchased the MFC-L8900CDW, and I have indeed experienced the excellent quality with this new printer thus far, with one exception. The WiFi connection will randomly drop, and the printer will start spewing out blank pages instead of completing the jobs in my print queue. The only way I can get the connection back to the printer (over the WiFi) is to restart my computer, even though it can access the WiFi, in the middle of my printing tasks.

For the most part I love this printer. The one major flaw I have found is you have to have it away from the wall! In order to print an envelope you have have to open the back of the printer! I have mine right next to the wall. I now have to move it to accommodate this problem! Other than that I LOVE it.

Very Satisfied
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. I found this printer quite easy to set up, although I needed help lifting the 70 lb. machine to the counter. Despite my lack of tech skills, I had it up and running in about 45 minutes.
I like that it holds 300 sheets of paper, has fast print speed and scans both sides of a 2-sided page simultaneously, which makes it quicker and more reliable than our previous model. It works fairly quietly, plus it has an additional quiet function if needed, although that slows it somewhat.
The touchscreen is clear and simple to use. So far, it hasn`t jammed. The fax function works just fine. The only drawback I`ve found is the rather poor photo quality.
Overall, I find this printer to be very efficient, and would recommend it for a home or small office.

One word.....Great!
We just purchased this new printer to replace our MFC-8890DW which we had for over 7 years....this was a real workhorse. This MFC-L8900CDW is "Great". Our first color laser. Normally we print all color docs on an InkJet...those days are now over. While some have commented that the dispslay panel is a tad laborious to navigate we found no problem with it. We use the Control Center 4 application to remotely setup any of the features and all works seamlessly with our network. It was basically take the printer our of the box, plug it in, and viola, the network found it immediately on all our devices...what a dream. We have only had this printer about a month so it's still in the trial period. The color docs we have printed so far are good. Not photo printer quality, but nonetheless, acceptable. The printers performance overall if five star....and the quality of the copies printed is far better than I've seen on other laser printers. This is truly a homerun for any office or home based business or just personal use.

Good product for the price, with lots of features
This is a good product for the price, and has a lot of features, like two-sided printing, scanning, in color. The cartridges are not expensive when you look at the cost per page, and number of pages per toner cartridge. As for concerns, I am waiting to see how long the fuser lasts, because I had a predecessor, MFC-L8870CDW, and that fuser roller only lasted 25,000 pages when it is slated to last 100,000. I also do not like that the ADF (auto-document feeder), is fixed vs. the L8870CDW. The final area of concern is that the wireless connection does not support 5.1 GHz, and still connects at 2.4 GHz. I support this product and gave it 4 stars because of the items I noted it does well, and the software that accompanies the printer at no extra costs.

Envelope creased
The only issue I have with the printer thus far is that the envelopes crease when fed through the multipurpose tray. I realize you can open the back to route the envelope straight through, but that does not work in my case (printer is stored in a cabinet with no rear access). My old Canon was able to handle this function fine.

Horrible Wifi, Bad Colors
I wouldn't spend the $$$ on this printer again. We have to reconnect the printer to the internet EVERY DAY, and about once a week we have to completely shut off the machine and restart it or it doesn't work. Whats the point of having a "wireless" printer, when I have to walk to the printer EVERY TIME to reconnect it to the wifi?
Colors: the red isn't bright so I wouldn't purchase this printer to make flyers or any other color copy business use. The red comes out dark and not true to what it should be.

This printer was easy to set up & is easy to use. Love the fact I can print from my phone & tablet - but be patient because it takes a minute or 2 to connect. This is a great document printer. If you want to print pictures this is not the printer for you - the colors are not consistent. I do recommend this printer.

It' an OK printer
The printer works well and the software for scanning is very good. It is a bit louder than what I expected but still tolerable. My biggest complaint is the duplex printing. I can't seem to find a way to print on both sides so when you turn the page it's right side up. i.e. flip on long side. You have to flip the page top to bottom for it to be right side up. Not very useful for my needs.

Brother All in One Printer
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. I connected The Printer to My Lap Top. I first set up to print Labels for a mailer. I found the Printer to be easy to load the labels, and when I pressed print, was so happy to see the labels had printed properly and each name and address was complete on the label.
I then set up a letter to mail merge with the address list from the labels. I had a very easy time printing. Loved how many pages it holds and was so thrilled to see how quickly so many letters were printed without the system over heating and needing to stop for periods of time like my old printer.
I found this printer easy to fax several documents to my insurance company. Loved how easy to use.
I scanned 3 documents and right away was able to find them to email.
My only complaint is, this thing is LARGE. However for a machine to offer all this does, I`ll clear an area. I think its a great added to my small business office and have always had Brother products and consider myself a ".Lifer"

Great functionality
Having one brother's unit for 7 years, I decided to upgrade to this model. I love the LED display and find it easier to get info than on the older model. Everything is just as good EXCEPT this unit does not seem to retain my WIFI connection. When the printer goes "to sleep" or so it seems, it does not exhibit the constant connectivity my older model had. I am finding it frustrating to have to "reconnect" when I am in a hurry to print something. I would recommend with this qualification.

I like it but could like it more
This is probably my 4th Brother laser printer. I’ve tried other brands and overall find Brother to come closest to meet my small business needs. The only difference between this and my last model is that this adds color. It’s fast and print quality is high in both color and B&W productions. I have been less than happy that within a few months it developed a vertical line that despite doing all the troubleshooting even with tech support, will still appear from time to time. I was also less than pleased that all the service options require bringing the machine to the service location. That’s not a great way to actually warrant a machine that weighs 70 or 80 lbs. That’s a disappointment. I’d pay for on-site service if it were an option.

Nice printer, easy to work, nice functions!
Documents come out nice and clear and professional looking in both black and white and color. It is easy to set up and easy to use. I did have one paper jam but it was easy to access and fix. The only problem I have had, which has nothing to do with the machine, is that there are not as many options available in my area for color copy paper for laser printers as there are for ink jet ones. I hadn't paid attention to that before I purchased it as wish I would have.

Love the Color, Not the Speed
This laser printer prints (in color!), faxes, scans, DUPLEXES, and has an easily programmable digital home screen for setting shortcuts, etc. It prints beautifully! It takes four different toner cartridges which seem to last a normal of time, but they can be spendy if you buy the Brother brand. I recommend buying HIGH YIELD COMPATIBLE. It also requires a drum a little more often than it should, but you can ignore all of the excessive reminders to put toner and a new drum until necessary. It has built-in wifi which is wonderful for setting the large boat anchor somewhere else and printing to it from your computer, phone, flash drive, etc. The only issue I have with it is the speed. It can be pretty slow. There are three of us in the accounting office who share this printer and usually by the time it prints we've already forgotten who printed. Also, it will print my printing right in the middle of someone else's. Annnnd... it will "take a break" in the middle of printing only a few (10?) sheets. If you don't care how long it takes for something to print I highly recommend this printer. Otherwise, I would compare it's PPM (page per minute) stats against other higher-speed printers. I do like Brother, though, and their customer service/warranty is top notch. In fact, that's how we received this printer... our other printer had a power surge issue and they replaced it with this one. And this one is a more expensive printer (but it was refurbished).

Compact Color Printer that does it all!
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. This printer is wonderful. It is so easy to use and perfect for a home office. I love that I can copy more than one page at a time and also scan document directly into my drive or email them when necessary.
The product instructions were a little confusing. I had a hard time setting up the printer for WiFi use. It took longer than expected but now that it`s set up, it works great!
The printer is very easy to assemble and remove the tabs that prevent it from shifting during shipment. There are great instructions so that you don`t miss any pieces during intitial assembly.
The Brother All-In-One printer is so much better than the printer I was using. It`s about double the size but still can fit in a small corner of the office. It`s much faster at copying and the print quality is amazing.
The double-sided printing is the only issue I had with this printer. It jams each time and is very frustrating. I still can`t figure out why it keeps jamming so I haven`t been able to print double-sided.
Overall, my impressions of this printer are great. I love the quality of the print. I love how fast it copies. I really love that I can scan right from the printer and save things to my drive. Overall, I am very impressed.

Fast, Efficient, Worth Every Penny
I have been buying Brother laser printers for home and 3 offices for 10 years and love the efficiency of Brother. THIS is by far the best printer I have owned for my small business - it is super fast and efficient and the print quality is spot on. I've owned several other multi-function laser's by Brother and this one exceeds all my expectations. Pros: Duplex scan, easy set up, speed of printing (single or duplex, customized buttons (we have one set to double side scan via email to Office Manager and use this daily, saves time choosing these options), runs quiet. Cons: None, owned for 3 months and no glitches.

Good printing quality! but slow and finicky
The quality is good for a multi-printer, but there are some cons:
1. Very slow to react for printing, very slow to print. It stalls after every 10 pages or so.
2. HORRIBLE wrinkles on envelope printing (you need to insert the envelope thru the back (!) and select envelope printing for a slightly better but still wrinkled envelope),
3. It does not print on small paper, I have 6"X 6" labels, that this printer cannot print to. .
4. Very loud, it sounds like a grinding motion, like its about to break but it doesn't.
5. Ink runs out very fast, high yield tones (6500) only last to 90% if you are using low quality draft printing.
6.HORRIBLE ink smell after printing 50 or so pages, so only use in very well ventilated areas. We do our heavy duty printing after hours to avoid headaches.
Please Brother place your demo printers in actual offices with actual work load to compare to other brands, to access the real benefits.

More than I expected
I have been a proud Brother printer owner for years. Recently I was due for an upgrade from my MFC-7840W (which still runs flawlessly after years of regular use. The replacement is incredible--fast printing, scanning, etc. Colors are sharp. Will stay with Brother if products continue like this one!

My New MFC-L8900CDW
Your Brother MFC-L8900CDW is the best printer we've owned, bar none. We rely on it for our small business as well as personal needs. We love every aspect of this printer...except, it will never scan or print on the first attempt. We always have to csncel and start over every time. Don't think we're doing anything wrong but will gladly accept any help eliminating this only nuisance.

Excellent machine but design flaws
We upgraded from an older MFC and love the new printer. It is very quick, print quality is excellent and all the options are great. In particular, I love to be able to scan and save directly to my google drive.
My one complaint is the design of the drum unit. There is a plastic piece that locks the drum unit into place. This does not lift or fall into place easily. It drags along the toner as you pull the drum unit out to change the toner. It feels like it may break in the future.

I really enjoy the brother product line up. I had purchased a brother MFC8860DN 10 years ago and I still use it. The reason I purchased a new one was that I needed one with WIFI so others in the office can use it So far, I am very pleased with it.

Awesome printer
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. Set up for this was easy. What took the longest was removing all the protective packaging material. I liked that the printer was shipped in plenty of protective material to be protected during transit. I didn`t have any issues connecting to and staying connected to wifi. Other wireless printers need to reconnected every few days. The print quality is amazing, loved the fine print it produced. Scanning to a PDF doc is simple, photocopies were great, as was the faxes too. The two sides printing is very nice, I printed some beautiful fliers. I really didn`t need the instruction manual during installation which is not something that happens often for me.

Great printer
I bought this for a small business but also have one at home. I'm floored at how fast it double side scans my receipts and files up to my NAS drive. I can load 40-50 in the automatic document feeder and away it goes. It also has black and white and color. I use black and white mostly and it's hardly putting a dent in the toner for my business use. I have had no connectivity issues and it just works with my ipad and iphone for printing. Good quality color and I'm glad I have this in place of ink jet. I also like that you can program custom icons for quick features.

Amazing Multi-Function Printer/Copier/Fax/Scan
I upgraded from an HP inkjet All-in-one printer. I'm a casual user with my inkjet. I was replacing cartridges every 2 months. So I decided to upgrade to a Laser to save money on ink.
The printer is much quieter than my old one (Hp Inkjet All-in-one and when compared to other brands. There is a quiet setting that makes it even quieter, but this occurs at the sacrifice of some speed. The fax machine is pretty standard for all faxes.
I am very impressed with the MFC-L8900-CDW's ability to customize scan functions. I have mine configured with icons to scan to my Windows desktop, scan to my personal email, scan to flash drive or phone.
The quiet function is great (definitely can tell a difference) from my old printer.
Overall, this is a great printer. One of the best multi-function machines you could buy. I highly recommend it!

We have only had our printer for about 3 weeks but so far it works great and has all the features we need for a small office. I thought the toner would be cheaper but it is very expensive compared to an InkJet. Hopefully in the long run the performance will make it worth it.

Decent Printer
It works well as a printer. For our office, we must scan a lot of documents and for some reason the connection always drops. It will communicate perfectly with just regular printing, but I have to constantly unplug it and restart it to establish the connection to the computer. When I contacted Brother customer service, they barely listened to the issue and basically stated that it was a router issue. Every other aio product we have has not had this issue.

Business Color Laser All-in-One Printer
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. This product is perfect for a small, home, or department printer. The set up on this product was easy to follow the main menu screens and the instructions provided. Some of the features that I enjoyed was the secure printing, the ease of having a wireless printer hooked up to all my devices on my network. The printer is a bit on the heavy side and will take two people to remove it from its box to the locate it will be set up at. The color quality of the pictures and scans are vibrant and high quality. If you are looking for a good quality efficient printer for your office this would be a great fit for you.

Good product
We've had this printer for a couple of months now, and it's been pretty great. We have a very small business, but we do quite a bit of printing, and it's handled it, no problem. It's pretty fast, the colors are sharp, text looks great.
There are two reasons I didn't give it 5 stars: 1 The plastic seems a little cheap, especially on the bypass tray, and I'm nervous it will break eventually. And 2) Black and white images have a greenish tint to them. There's a workaround, but it's a pain to figure out.

Printer Works Great
So far, we are very happy with the operation of the printer. Our only compliant is the high cost of ink supplies. Brother should provide a service or provide a way to refilling the ink cartridges. Replacing the complete ink cartridges is as expensive as the cost of the printer. Over the expected life of the printer the ink supply cost is unreasonable.

Brother MFC-L8900CDW
This is my first impression and first ownership of a color laser printer which I purchased on the recommendation of the Office Depot Sales Representative. Easy to use, a bit bigger and louder than an inkjet but lower long term cost investment for toner supplies, so over time, less cost and better product and delivery than inkjet printer. Also, it takes a little time to recover if it gets hot from a massive job.

Overall, a nice printer
This printer seems to be able to handle most jobs with ease. However, there are two things which I would like to see change. I purchased an optional tray so that I can print mixed size documents without switching paper. The problem is that when one size of paper runs out, the printing continues, but uses whatever size paper is left, instead of stopping and warning me that I need more of that size paper. Now, before I start any mixed size print job, I have to remind myself to make sure both trays are full. The other thing is that the printer is louder than other printers.

Love the printer. Was partial to another company and was loyal due to their product but wanted to see how the Brother printer worked. So far. So much better than other competitors. Concerns would be that the touch screen is not very responsive and the first page to print is the slowest of any of the printers I've previously used in the same category of functionality.

Almost a great machine
We use the machine to print church bulletins. I was trying to keep others from using the machine when office was closed. Several non-business machines have been trashed in the past several months by people who were not authorized to use them. I contacted chat and they sent me to instructions on how to lock the machine. I followed the instructions as the administrator and after I finished I tried to operate the machine. It operated as normal which was not what my goal was. I shut the machine down and rebooted and it still allowed me to make copies. I sent an e-mail along to your people about 2 weeks ago and have still not received a response. Other than that, I am satisfied with the performance of this machine.

Brother MFC-L8900 Printer
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. To start:Opening the box and removing the printer was easy with the exception of the clips. There was more effort than expected to push them to open them. Lifting the printer and moving it into place took more effort than just a Admin Assistant.Removing the packing in the printer was easy and straight forward based on the directions provided. The one area of concern was the amount of space needed to access the back of the printer. Since there is a door in the back I was uncertain how much clearance would be needed if I ever need to access it.Configuration also worked well but our particular setup doesn`t have a CD so we needed to search for the software on the Brother site. Since there are a number of similar printers it took a while to determine which one. The installation went well after that.Printer setup for the Wifi network worked although there should be a discussion between static and Dynamic IP addressing for those that are more technical. I left the setup using DHCP so we haven`t seen what will happen once the network changes and the IP for the printer changes.Printer warmup and print speeds are acceptable since our print volumes are not consistent.Faxing and Scanning have also worked well in our testing. WE typically do not have high volumes of either.I have not reviewed the cost of supplies so I cannot provide a update on those. Overall the printer is very build, easy to install, and operates well.

Brother MFC-L8900CDW-Business Color Laser Print...
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. Working in a small office of 10 in the real estate industry, there has always been a need for a multi-functional, multi-dimensional, and multi-faceted "smart" printer to meet the ever increasingly printing demands of our office, agents, and industry.
Ever mindful of our day-to-day office "costs", we were offered the opportunity to try out the BROTHER MFC-L8900CDW All-in-One Printer with enough functions, options, and features that we thought might solve all of our needs both collectively as an office group and our individual day-to-day requirements as well.
Well, the BROTHER MFC-L8900CDW did not disappoint. While it did take a full 10 days to fully understand and appreciate what the MFC-L8900CDW was capable of doing (too many things to list here), everyone is finally getting the hang-of-things. Even some of the older "techno-phobes" in the office are slowly embracing the new technology.
After the two week demo period, we have decided to keep our new BROTHER printer as it has been voted on and agreed to, that the MFC-L8900CDW is the best printer to meet both our printing demands of today, and of those of the future.

I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. First off, this machine is a powerhouse! When it was first delivered, I couldn`t believe the weight of it as I brought it inside. It`s got to be around 70 lbs and of a good size. Be careful unboxing it. The bag that it is emveloped in is one heavy-duty plastic bag. You may need to enlist help as you lift the bag out of the box. Surprisingly, the bag did not rip as the machine was being removed from the box. Try and preserve the box in case you need to move the machine in the future.
It`s really nice looking and it does what it says it does. Since it uses toner instead of ink jet, ithe cartridges comes fully loaded and ready to go! I think the black tower supplied yields 3200 pages and around 1800 pages for the color. This machine prints 33 ppm in black and color. It`s so fast and productive. I print large documents, and this was very fast at knocking them out.
The Automatic Document Feeder duplexes and prints both sides of a page in one pass, which really saves a lot of time. The paper tray holds 250 sheets, but you can buy more paper trays if you need more paper capacity.
It has a really nice touchscreen which is bigger than some smartphones and the screen is customizable. It is pretty quiet compared to other machines I`ve used in the past. It has great scanning abilities and great mobile printing. If you need some quick copies, this machine can handle it. Faxing is also part of this machine`s game plan, if you so choose.
Print quality is excellent, as I mostly used black, and the color printing was pretty darn good, as well. I`m extremely happy with this workhorse. My only complaint is that the phone line cord was not very long, as I have had longer cords on other machines. That, really, was my only gripe. So, Brother, you may want to keep that in mind for future renditions.
I think that the Brother toner will be more cost-effective to use compared to the ink jet replacement ink that are on other machines.
All in all, this is a good choice for all your office needs.

Good features - very slow first page
Scanning functions quickly and well. I have tested the scanner in duplex mode and is one of the functions that I like. Scanning to email directly functions well. Copying works well including the duplex to duplex, enlarging and reducing functions.
I also have a HP CP2025DN color laser printer. I compared several color printouts between the two printers. Text printout in color is very comparable. Color pictures from the internet (IE: downloaded printer quality photos are very similar with a very slight edge to the HP printer.
There are two areas that I dislike about this Brother printer.
First is the time it takes to produce the first page of printout. It is very slow even in comparison to my old printer.
Second is the need to change levers on the back of the printer to print envelopes. Because of this it is much more convenient to print envelopes to my old printer.
I would not recommend this printer in a business environment. It is a good printer for a home office if you are patient while waiting for the first page to print and infrequently print envelopes.

Disappointed in Output
Was told that the machine would print on cover weight paper by your representative. At best will only print on 67lb vellum bristol and then the finished print has excessive curl and must be put under heavy weight to lay partially flat.

Amazing Printer
We purchased this for a small business office and love it! It was super simple to set up and the print quality is amazing! Was surprised how well this printer worked for the price. This ting is a beast and then some. Very fast printing and love the 2 sided printing and scanner. We spend hundreds less on this printer then the last one and it is 10 times better. Highly recommended.

We bought one and it worked great for nine months. Then it wouldn't turn on, but we called Brother and they shipped overnight a brand new unit. We also bought another for a remote office. We've always been happy with Brother products and their service after this last issue has put the icing on the cake that even in the event something fails, they're right there to help and help fast!

A partner who never complains
I use this printer to produce mailing of correspondence courses. The source material are these high resolution pdf files. This printer handles these files like it is no big deal. My very old laser jet printer used to take 10-15 minutes to print one file. This printer does it in 50 seconds. And the double sided scanning feature makes scanning the replies a snap. Printing envelopes nice, but you have to flip two switches in the back for that to work. Not a fan of that, but it does handle about 6 envelopes at a time in the feeder so I can queue those up as I have need.

Better than expected
Really pretty good machine. Does everything well. Two comments. 1 Why can't a printer manufacturer make a paper tray to hold an entire ream of paper at this price point? This goes for all of printer manufacturers. 2) A bit annoying that it seems to "think" mid-print job and not just spit out the entire print job at once. Otherwise, exceeds expectations.

My new brother
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. I want to start my review with the packaging. The printer was secure and wrapped very well; nothing was damaged, important because this was shipped to me. I do a lot of printing at my apartment/office and so far this has met my expectations and more. I like the size of the unit,
is not too big, yet has all the abilities of larger all in one printers. Setup was easy, and then I connected it to my Wi-Fi network, and that was easy also. This was done using the 5" color touch screen on the front. It is nice having a larger touch screen, which has good clarity, responds well to touch and guides you through all the settings and functions. Very easy to user interface. You also have the ability to connect it to your network via a cable if you want. Loading the paper was straightforward and like the sheet capacity. The first function I used was the scanner. The scanner has a full size legal document glass. You can scan both color and black and white documents. It also has the ability to do duplex scanning. I am impressed at the scanning speed, especially with color documents. I also love the fact you can scan and import to a OCR file, which allows editing of text documents, because of the Nuance OCR software. You`re also able to scan directly to email, cloud services, specific files on your computer. This goes quickly over the WIFI network. It also allows you to save the documents scanned in all the formats you could possibly want or need. Using the Brother iPrint&Scan app allows you to scan from any mobile device, either Apple, Android, Windows and Blackberry , a feature we have been using more often than we originally thought we would, its every useful and works nicely. The Copy feature allows for black and white and color copying. You don`t need a computer to copy; it is easily done using the control panel on the unit. The speed of copying is around 33 pages per minute and the quality is very good. You also have the ability to reduce or enlarge the document before its copied. Plus you can do duplex copying. The Print function is very good, printing at up to 33 pages per minute. We have been very pleased with the speed and the quality of the printed documents. Plus we never had an issue with misprinted or paper jams. This holds true for all the functions, no paper jams at all, which is plus for me. The last feature of this is the Fax. I do quite a bit of faxing and so far this has been working well for me. It does only fax in black and white but that isn`t an issue for me. One feature I have never had before is duplex faxing and have to say it is nice to have and works great. The transmission speed is good, faster than my previous all in one, just a couple of seconds per page. You can also send documents from your pc to the unit and they are faxed, that is another feature I like and have been using more often. Saves time and saves the need to print a document then fax. We`ve not experienced any issues with sending or receiving faxes. Overall this has been a hit in my apartment/office. Not just for the speed and quality but also for the security features, this allows you to only allow access to certain users or groups or limit how much they print. This also is a good way to help reduce printing costs. Overall, this is the perfect All-in-One for a small office that does a lot of printing. It has all the functions you could need, all have worked perfectly for me, the laser cartridges last longer and it is energy efficient.

This is my 3rd Brother printer
Have had very good experience with prior Brother printers and was happy with my new unit for initial 4 months until screen kept indicating jammed paper, which was not the case. After much frustration Brother sent me a replacement unit after being guided through sequence of steps by tech support. Believe it was a faulty sensor. Happened at critical time when I needed my printer. Brought in tech guy at my expense to ensure properly installed. Has adversely effected my attitude towards Brother.

Quality of pictures!
I've only used my printer for about a month, but I can tell you that compared to the inkjet I replaced this thing is a marvel! It's not really any faster at double-sided color printing than my old one, but the quality is 100 times improved. So far, no issues with jamming (and I do double-sided a LOT). Everything was in the box, and it took me about 10 minutes to set up and go. The instructions are complete, and it was easy to do. As of today, I'd definitely get this brand again.

Great Printer!
The MFC-L8900CDW is an outstanding printer! Colors are very true. I highly recommend it after having used a black and white laser printer for more than six years. The new printer also replaced a four year old inkjet color printer which was a constant nuisance --- filling or replacing cartridges every few weeks, and was messy and unpredictable.

Great versatile machine
I purchased this machine to replace a HP laser printer I had had for 12 years and a multifunction inkjet machine for my small law office. The Brother-MFC-L8900CDW works great. It's not as fast on the first document to print as the laser printer, but it makes up in the quality of the copies and the speed of the first copy when using it to copy. I use the copy, print and scan features and it keeps up with the volume.

Good but...
While it has all the features I was looking for - scan, copy, fax, there are times when I have to turn off and on in order to get the connection with the printer to get these functions to work. It may be a function of my wireless connection, but it is annoying when I want to print or scan and I have to turn the printer off then on to get my request started. Also, there should be a shortcut to be able to easy scan to email as I have to press so many buttons to get to that feature. For the cost of this printer it should be so much easier.

Really like this except envelop printing & photos
I really like this printer and especially the more affordable consumable products compared to HP. Over the life, I can see how we will spend far less on laser cartridges. Two areas still need improved: 1. We have to flip 2 switches on the back of the printer to print envelops without getting a crease. While we're glad there is a way to work around this issue, it's inconvenient to do that extra step everytime we put in an envelop. 2. The quality of print on glossy photo paper compared to an HP is still not there. We recently had to print 50 pictures out. The ones done on the Brother had streaks and not full coverage. The HP looked much better.

GREAT AIO MULTI-FUNCTION PRODUCT BY BROTHER
GREAT AIO MULTI-FUNCTION PRODUCT BY BROTHER. I purchased this product for occasional home use. It being a laser AIO printer/copier/scanner/fax, one big advantage is the AIO uses dry toner (ink which last much, much longer than typical ink type machines. Moreover, quality and multiple various features, along with the company name of Brother, is a win-win. Also own a business fax machine by Brother, and it has functioned flawlessly, unlike other brands.

I love Brother -have had a couple. This model had everything I wanted. But the speed seems slower than other Brothers I have had, and slower than what they claim. Also, the advance duplex feature is interfering with one of my software programs, so I am having to troubleshoot to try to get it to print duplex. But I like the ease of use, and if it is like my other Brothers, I plan on using it for some time.

The workhorse in my law office
This machine was purchased to replace another Brother MFC which our office had been using for five years. This machine's fax forwarding feature has saved my office about $300 a month from our previous use of commercial faxing services. The extremely fast simultaneous scanning of both sides of two sided documents not only saves time, but also reduces wear and tear on the machine. The Brother Iprint and scan app eliminates the need for a computer and is a super companion to have with the MFC-L8900CDW.

Very good, but
The printer replaced an older Dell printer. I had to exchange it for a new one due to a malfunction but that was OK, the store was great with the exchange. The problem that no one can correct is that with my dedicated fax line from Comcast the Fax function will not work to send faxes. I have had both my Tech folks work on it and also Comcast sent out a rep to go thru everything in the set up and no one can get it to work. I have also been with the Brother Tech Support team and they said it was a line problem and Comcast says the lines are good. No one will step up and actually do something and wish I would just go away.
I have since found that Comcast uses a type of VIOP (? hard line service and that may be the problem. I will not give up but with the added expenses and time spent on trying to get it to work the actual cost of the printer is at least triple the purchase price.

Top tray paper feed Not good
I am not impressed with this 4-in-one printer so far. First it is difficult to get it to be responsive to needs. I must go to the instructions every time I need to do something different. It is not intuitive like other printers we have used. I will say that the color is great but don't feed the paper into the top tray without being sure that it is set absolutely straight. Otherwise, it will wrinkle when it is pulled into the machine. Also, maintenance for the unit is not to be found. You must do all your reasearch on the internet. There again, not intuitive.

This is a pretty good printer. The print quality of the text and images are nice and sharp, it does print colors a lot darker than they appear on the computer monitor though. It holds plenty of paper which is a nice change from our old printer which only held about 30 sheets. My only complaint is that it seems to disconnect from the network often which is annoying, but if I just turn it off and back on it will reconnect, so I don't know what that's all about. Anyway, I would recommend this printer for a home office for sure!

Recent update from a 7-year old MFC-9970CDW
Given the cost of certain replacement parts for my Brother MFC-9970CDW, which served me well for 7 years, I decided that it made more sense to buy a comparable new model. So far, it has worked well. One minor problem is that it tends to not print when there is an available software upgrade to be downloaded and installed. Once that is done, then it prints normally again.

Everything works good except the copying
Really a very nice machine except there is no way to make the copies placed on the glass come out in anything except legal size. I tried calling support but there is a huge language barrier. I wish their tech support spoke better English. Expensive copier to not be able to use 100%.

Big Bang For Your Buck
I received this product for free from Brother in exchange for my honest opinion/review of the product. My first impression was that the box was huge and I was worried about the size of the unit, but upon opening the box I was relieved to find that the Brother MFC-L8900CDW`s footprint was just a tiny bit bigger (deeper than the inkjet multi-function printer that sits on my desk (though it`s about four times the height). The Brother is easily lifted and is made of sturdy material, unlike many I`ve used.
Setting up the Brother MFC-L8900CDW was very easy. I wondered where the toner was for a second until I checked the quick start instructions and found the toner cartridges pre-installed. It`s a user-friendly toner compartment, by the way, not like those toxic old toners that you were supposed to ship back to manufacturer for those traditional, giant workstations. I followed the quick guide and was faxing within seconds from the time I finished removing the packaging.
Noise, Speed, & Quality
After about 10 days` use, mostly for printing (network printing), I am super-impressed with this machine. It is whisper quiet, so much so that I could print while on a sensitive call, with a customer who does not share my native language, without that warm-up noise and printing sound giving away my multi-tasking. It is so quiet that, when I mistakenly thought I had printed to my desktop printer, I re-printed before I realized that my documents had printed to the Brother just outside my office door.
The speed is fantastic. On the desktop printer, when I need to print a long (10+ page) document, I plan the print around another activity that doesn`t interfere. When I printed the 20 page AmEx bill, from the AmEx website, on the Brother, it was done in about 45 seconds, due to one of my FAVORITE features, the simultaneous duplex printing (meaning it doesn`t have to suck the paper back in and flip it; it just prints both sides at same time). A performance well worth the trip out of my chair to pull the fincished documents off the Brother.
What I am most impressed with, however, is the quality of my prints. When photocopying, I ran off copies of various color printed documents and the copies were undistinguishable from the originals, even when I examined carefully. Both original and copy even had that sheen that first generation color (or b/w) prints have.
My overall take is that this all-in-one printer is a joy to use. I would LOVE to take this printer home, and for people with a little more home office space, doing so would be quite feasible as the size is not much more than the average deskjet. Unfortunately for me, it is still a little too big for my urban living apartment.
One last note. As a laser printer, the Brother takes toner, which is expensive. But there were toner promotions out there, and with toner cartridges that give you like 4000-6000 pages, it`s still more cost effective than ink cartridges which give you around 120 pp(I think). AND they have the added bonus of not forcing you to constantly change ink cartridges (which always seems to be necessary in the middle of a big print job). The main downside is that the toner purchases require a large outflow of cash at once rather than stretching it out over time with $20-40 ink cartridges.
If you download the latest version of the software, be more careful than I was to avoid the unrelated software bundled in. It wasn`t too bad, just one app I should have skipped, but still kind of an annoyance to have to be suspicious of software for your brand new color laser printer which wasn`t cheap. I don`t see any real benefit to the customer with these kind of deals between corporations. But that aside...
Thumbs up. And if they ever shrink this machine a little bit to fit on my home printer table, I`ll be first in line.

Still the Best
This is my third Brother all-in-one. It's not that anything was wrong with any one of them. I just upgrade from time to time. Brother machines are rock solid. They just work. When a consumable is exhausted, just pop another in; and it's like buying a new machine. I recommend only Brother to friends, family, and associates.

I'm a realtor needing to scan all day, print volumes of brochures, docs, postcards - all sorts of paper and sizes and this beast handles it all with aplomb. I am so impressed with the broad functionality and speed of this product. I could rave on, but suggest for heavy users; this is well worth the investment.

Very practical and fast - security features lack
The printer is very practical and fast but has some glitches if you are trying to restrict users. Importantly, the scan function from your PC of a secured user doesn't work. You have to go back and unrestricted printer to scan from the printer to your computer. Printer works fine though, directly from your PC or MAC You can't separately program an Ipad or iPhone to print as a secure device.

Great workhorse unit for offices
We've used this unit in a 10 agent real estate office for over a year now and it just cranks out the pages and works how it needs to. The wifi network printing for everyone to connect to is relatively easy to setup. Scans and prints fast. Print quality is good enough for everything. Brother's service is outstanding, had a warranty issue and they sent a technician from 4 hours away to fix in office within a day, customer for life.

Very Good High Quantity Printer
I print very high volumes on a daily basis, and have never had an issue.
Every part that needs replaced after normal use is color coded and simple to replace!
However, I do wish the toner levels were monitored by the amount of toner that is actually in the cartridge, rather than the number of pages that is printed.
Overall the print quality is excellent and it hasn't broken on me yet :)

GARBAGE. WILL NEVER PURCHASE BROTHER AGAIN
I've owned this printer for almost a year. It is the worst printer ever. The printer will not print if one of the toner cartridges are empty. Even if you don't use the color toners. The ADF constantly jams and tears the papers apart no matter how hard you try to put them into the feeder evenly. Now it won't recognize the new toner I've just tried to replace. I have purchased and recommended Brother products for over a decade. I will now discourage anyone from purchasing their piece of junk products ever again. What a waste of money and time.

Reliable, flexible and great quality printing
I have owned several Brother printers over the past 20 plus years. In fact, two are still running flawlessly and are 5 and 10 years old. After selling my company, I started my next venture and needed a light use copier/scanner/printer for my home office. I didn't need a full fledged copier lease. So when I went looking for an option for my office it was easy to go with a Brother and it does not disappoint. The MFC-L8900CDW is easy to setup, use and is flexible enough to handle all my business needs. I would recommend this device and would purchase it again.

Good if only printing black text on white paper
If you are printing only black text on white paper this product is great. However, if you have any images, or color on here this is horrible. The pictures are blurry, and not clear. I printed a resume where my name is white on a blue banner. The name is extremely blurry and the blue runs into the white name. This is the same on anything that isn't black text on white background.

Like it more everyday
I went from an Ink jet to a MFC-L8900CDW, it has taken some time to get use too, an using the right paper for printing and some Photos that I do... Also getting use to the software take time... But things are coming along. Like all thing NEW it takes time. I like the way it prints and scans, Pictures are clear, but are not as glossy as an Ink jet. Love how much paper it holds, Not filling the machine every other day. Have not used the Fax yet. Most people don't no they need to use the right paper. I tried the cell phone App. that works neat... As time go on I expect things to go better and better. In comparison to the Ink jet. No more Ink that leeks or needs to dry.. this is a plus. One thing I'm not crazy about is the Center paper tray and printing from there for envelops .. I found it best to download all the Instructions on the unit, as you may need to do something step by step until you get use to the printer. Its got a lot of things that you can do..

An incremental improvement over the MFC-9970CDN.
The release tabs in the rear for envelope printing are less likely to bread a fingernail than in the MFC-9970CDN but envelope printing from MS Word a very badly aligned. I'm reserving my envelope printing for an old MFC-9460CDN. Toner is very pricey. I suspect parts differ from predecessor making repairs difficult. I'd recommend buying a used MFC-9970 instead.

NOT user friendly, Features archaic
The software: You can get it to do what you need to, most of the time, but if you just want simple printing, scanning and copying, this is not your baby.
Scanning: It's a exercise! Had to set up software for it to scan. That software requires that I load the papers into the printer, then go back to my desk upstairs to then push the scan button, then run back downstairs to retrieve my document. As opposed to being able to scan right from the printer, while I'm standing there and having it send the document to my computer - which is a feature I have on two other scanners from different manufacturers. No up and down the stairs, just run it through grab the document and walk back to my desk.
Copying: Doesn't automatically collate pages, if I'm printing multiple copies of a - say - 10 or so page document. I have to remember to adjust the setting to do that EVERY time because there isn't a default setting for collating; that I have found. Otherwise, there I am laying my 20 page document all over the office and collating by hand, like I had to do in the 80s. What sense does that make? What multi-page document might one print in an office that they don't want the pages collated? If there is a case, it's not the norm in the 35+ years I've been working in offices.
Other than than those basic office needs - if you just want to print documents one at time, and single pages here and there, this printer will probably be fine.

Printer fine. Customer service is not.
The product is fine (mostly), but the customer service is severely lacking in quality. The scan feature on our brand new printer does not work. I’ve contacted Brother numerous times for help to resolve the matter. After the initial communication with low-level support couldn’t resolve the issue, the ticket was escalated. That’s where I stopped receiving any help. Brother failed to call during scheduled times, failed to respond to my emailed inquiry, and has failed to follow up with me to this day. The scan feature still does not work, but our office has now entered our busiest time of the year. I no longer have time to constantly follow up and I definitely don’t have time to block off sections of my day that have been pre-scheduled for Brother to call and help — especially knowing they’ve repeated failed to call during those windows in the past. We’ve had to borrow others’ scanners for large job. We shouldn’t have to do this. So, printer is okay but be prepared for limited to no customer service or tech support if something goes wrong.

Decent machine but not a great color printer
It prints quickly, handles multiple paper types, and was easy to setup. Unfortunately, the colors are very dull and not very vibrant. I compared it to my previous brother Laser MFC and my Epson Ecotank which have very bright and vibrant colors. I tried going through all the print setting, doing the updates, and even chatted with the Brother tech support but it sounds like this is as good as it gets. I tried returning it to Staples but they informed me that because I had printer around 100 copies so far they would not take it back (even though it was 3 days old) and that I needed to speak with Brother for warranty support. If you are buying this for basic office work it will be fine, but don't buy it if you are planning to print nice customer facing color presentations.

Be ready to do regular cleanings.
We purchased this printer to replace a previous one that had issues with making streaks and having such build up on the rollers that began to crinkle the pages. We are a small office and do not make a lot of copies or print a lot. The current total count is 2191. That being said, we are getting dark marks on the pages already. I have followed Brother recommended cleanings and that seems to help, but I do not think that under 3000 copies should have such a state already.

MFC 8900 CDW review
I purchased my first Brother's printer MDC in Feb 2011, and it lasted 12 years. With that good quality, I purchased this new one. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about 8900 series. It falls to sleep in the middle of the printing frequently, and it eats the corner of the paper in the feeder & causes paper jam. Lastly, I noticed that all current models place the black toners in the last place of a tray. Why? Black toner is the most frequently changed toner, so why would designer put it last to take most effort to change?

Heavy to lift but works great
This is a very heavy machine that I couldn’t lift by myself, but once I hired a strong, young man to set it on its table, I discovered how smoothly it works. I still can’t figure out how to do multi-page scans, but I’ll seek that out some day. It’s a clean, mean, well-performing machine.

Not perfect but overall better than others
In printing and reliability, it's better than the others. Yes, it's a bit slow, and yes, it lacks some computer (laptop/desktop/mobile) controls, but it works solidly without the performance frustrations other printers (especially ink jet) have. It's not photo quality printing but it does print photo graphics well. I'm glad I bought this to replace the overpriced ink jet printer I had.

Good printer, Not perfect.
Good printer with a lot of features. A little too "corporate" for my needs.. For example, requiring a user code and personal ID number generated via the printers IP Address Controls just to scan a document into a network folder. We are a small company with only 10 employees so we do not need these types of security features. The main reason for the three stars is that often on spreadsheets, it will not print all of the gridlines. On almost every spreadsheet we print, there is at least one section of gridline that does not print. It is totally random, sometimes vertical lines, other times horizontal. Sometimes entire sections, and sometimes only a single line. Kind of a let down considering we are an inventory company who prints thousands of spreadsheets. Overall, this is still an upgrade from my previous HP printer which had a slew of mechanical issues. Just wish the spreadsheets would print more crisply and this would be a 5 Star review.

We have had mixed luck with other brother models, but this one specifically is FANTASTIC. Print quality is great, it has all the features we need, the ink isn't disappearing at a terrifying rate (Huge issue with the last brother we had), and it has stood up to days at the office where we need hundreds of pages done. Could not be more pleased with it (Especially after the last one left us all daydreaming about THAT scene from ''The Office'')

Fast scanning, but slow printing
We bought this printer to replace an HP Printer that did not have double-sided scanning capabilities. We bought the Brother printer with the best features that also fit on a desktop. Our team of 6 people print pretty frequently, so we needed something reliable for printing and for scanning. For scanning, we have no complaints. We love the legal size scanner glass, and every double-sided printing at a high quality output is very quick! However, printing speed is what this printer lacks most. Today I printed a 24-page document, and it took longer than 5 minutes. The printer tends to stop and take a break every few pages, which is pretty frustrating. We have all gotten used to it now, as we have been using the printer for 5 months, but it's the one complaint that I have and the one thing I miss about our HP printer.

Problem with Margins
Overall I like the printer. The problem I have is that the default top and bottom margins are not programmable. I have another Brother and HP printer in my small office environment that work great. I found that the top margin moves the intial printing starting point down way too much on this printer. I try to print a pre-printed form and I am unable to align the print data with the correct position within the form. The application software to print within these forms cannot align with the form because the default setting within the printer starts the printing too far down. No problem with my other Brother Printer or the HP printer within my network.

Replaced an HP and 100% Satisfied
Forgive the long story here. I’ve used HP printers for decades. When my 7-yr-old color laser multifunction HP bit the dust, I ordered an HP replacement. When it arrived, the setup procedure was ridiculously complicated and, in the end, the printer would not connect to my WiFi network and apparently had some sort of software flaw. I packed it up, sent it back and ordered this Brother. When it arrived, I was very impressed with how well it was built. The replacement HP seemed flimsy with a thin shell and flimsy paper drawers. This Brother was robust. I’ve been using it now for about a month or so and am 100% satisfied.

Very Satisfied with this Excellent Printer
I am happy to report that this has been one of my most successful purchases. I bought this printer from Staples Canada in June 2018 and have printed about 4800 pages according to its page counter. It is still performing as well now as when I first unboxed it. For everyday printing, I use 24-lb paper. I also use card stock for greeting cards, business cards, event tickets, posters, and the like. There has not been a single paper jam! I don't print photographs yet the colour is quite good for posters and the like. The single-pass duplex scanning is a grand feature as is the automatic duplex printing. I did use use the fax feature a couple times but who faxes nowadays? Can you tell I am very pleased with this printer? It's a definite 5 out of 5. Based on my experience, I always recommend Brother printers to friends and associates when they a looking for a new printer.
BTW, Brother Canada is not influencing this review. I am honestly happy with the printer.

Latest Brother machine in 20 years
I have pretty much stayed with a Brother product for the last 20+ years in my office (tax & accounting). The prior machine wan an 8850 purchased in early 2017. It made it through this year's tax season but finally bit the dust over the summer. I had purchased the 8900 last year as soon as it became available again. It was a seamless transition. I am still getting used to the changed menu features but I find it to be much more quiet and still very fast in printing. It is also my go-to machine involving any form of 2-sided copying. I don't know much about the larger machines available, but this range has worked very well for me in a small office (about 80 reams of paper a year) and for personal use without being overly complicated.

This printer is great, but supplies are very expensive. Even though I print 99% of the time in black & white, the color toners keep going down. Why? Taking the printer alone, this would be 5 stars. When you consider the total cost of ownership, it is just average.

Slower than we expected.
We bought this to replace our much older Brother MFC-8870CDW. The L8900 has all the same features, but we were disappointed with the speed. We expected at least the same throughput or faster. It is actually slower than our old 9970CDW. It spends a lot more time digesting the data before it gets around to printing. On multi-page documents it also has to pause during the printing to think about the data some more.

Ordered this machine to replace an inkjet all-in-one that was having quality issues after a short service life. Very impressive quality and lots and lots of features. We have it configured at the house so we can use any of our various devices, including phones, to print. I particularly love the ability it has to duplex copies. Output is sharp.and even the color pops! Very happy with this small investment and hoping we get years of service compared to replacing our inkjets every other year.

Works great, no issues
This printer has been easy to use and has nice features. I like that it has an easy slide out for toner change outs. The paper tray could have a larger capacity but 250 sheets is decent. I wish toner refills were cheaper.

Excelent Buy & Quality
Setup and overall Prepping \ Testing connectivity easily accomplished due to the Touch Screen:
We were pleasantly surprised with all of the Plus's and overall speed. The Scan single and dual sided scan is Excellent. The Print single and Duplex speed is more than adequate. Expand-ability for a second Tray is a huge plus as is the Ethernet RJ45 connection.

Solid & dependable for our small business office
Scan quality is excellent - I'm not even using our scanner, but scanning everything with this printer. Copy quality is excellent. This printer feels very professional to use and set up. There are great admin setup features, with so many levels of customization and user control. We are using it on our Ethernet and the connection has been no trouble. Bypass printing is reliable and fast. The ADF works well, even for duplex scanning/copying. Like others have mentioned, it feels a bit slow for getting that first page to print (still less than 10 seconds, but the tradeoff in quality, administration and features FAR outweighs the time to first page print. Definitely appreciate Brother's offering in this price range for our small business office daily use.TL

Easy to use
A coworker's dept had this printer and when I needed a new one, I decided to get this printer. Well, overall I am pleased with the printer. I was NOT pleased that after 4 months, the drum needed to be replaced and I had to spend HOURS on the phone with the company to determine the problem. The problem was misdiagnosed the first time and then spent another couple of hours on the phone a 2nd time to determine the drum needed to be replaced. I think my biggest complaint would be that both times I was told the replacement part would be shipped overnight and it was multiple days before it was received.

It's adequate.
It wasnt exactly plug & play and every so often the wireless needs to be re-initialized, but it engages and provides the printout within a comfortable lag time, and because it's pretty new, the quality is good enough for day to day color. Envelopes get crinkled, so we use another printer for envelopes, but it's not a bad printer.

Great Printer
The quality of the printed product is superior, exceptionally crisp and clear. Color copies use every last color that exist in the universe and are very clear, very bright, and very sharp. The display is very easy to understand and allows for a multitude of uses. Cons: The price I have to pay to replace all of the color cartridges is more than I paid for the entire printer. There is no easy way to lower the lid after copying so that it won't slam down or smash my finger when trying to cushion the close. I could not have unpacked it if it hadn't been for the video that I found somewhere; the paper with pictures was useless. I tried for over an hour to find out how to scan and still wasn't successful because the printer gave me grief about "my email wasn't set up." It's wireless and it communicates fine with my desktop but it refused to scan when I asked it to use an email. I figured out a way to send the scan to my desktop and from my desktop I copied it into an email but what a pain-in-the-neck way to have to do that.

Excellent Value & great printer.
This is the third or fourth printer we have bought. We moved up from the inkjet to laser. We don't use fax these days but have used almost every other feature of this and love how simple it is to scan both sides of a document at the same time, and also the automatic printing (duplex of multiple pages. We aren't a heavy user so don't know how longevity will be but our last one was well over 8 years old and was still going strong so I expect this will do the same if not even more so! I don't know that this printer is missing any features I could want in the future so I hope it is the last one I need to buy.

Ok printer - Terrible customer service
Received my printer and upon setting up several weeks later, discovered there was hidden damage. I contacted Brother to request a replacement part, a paper tray, and after numerous photos, phone calls, and chats, was told "that part is not available". I even tried to buy the part but had no success. To this day I have a printer with a broken paper tray and virtually no way to open said tray without further damage to the printer.

Potential to be the best all in one on the market
Had to return it because of a few annoying issues.
Pros:
-Easy setup.
-Very easy to use, not too many useless features.
-Brother Utilities software was easy to use as well.
-Print quality for text is very good, print quality for images is actually not bad, much better than my experience with lexmark.
-Both single page and duplex print jobs were not skewed. I'm anal about my print pages coming out straight and even. Very few printers nowadays print evenly. Bad experience with lexmark.
-Both black and white and colour print jobs were very good.
-Printing from mobile device (airprint) works very well.
-Network printing is solid, never had any issues.
-Flatbed scanner is extremely large, you can scanned legal documents with no problem.
Cons:
-Print pages always come out curled even when the reduced print curl option is enabled (deal breaker for me)
-Extremely heavy for one person to carry.
-Flatbed scanner lid is difficult to slowly lay down, it snaps shut and I can see having issues down the road.
-Initially setup was easy, however needed to call tech service to find out the administrator setting password in order to adjust a couple of options such as modifying the home-screen icons. For some odd reason you always need to input a password to get into the admin setting options (very odd).
-ADF scans always come out skewed for both single or duplex scanning (deal breaker).
-You need to always scan or copy using the software in order to get the best results, otherwise scanning and copying directly from machine won't give you the full printing benefits. Maybe there is a way to fix this using the web management feature.
-Instruction manual is literally almost 750 pages.
Compared to HP, Canon & Lexmark, the MFC-L8900CDW is probably the best option for color laser printing. I'm actually going to give the Epson Workforce ET-8700 a try. If that doesn't workout I'll re-purchase the brother. In my opinion, all printers are horrible because companies keep pumping garbage.

Too heavy to lift... & auto-setup didn't work
SoloContinuity here. Well, I'm off to a bad start... The box was so big it had to be delivered, however, there was no one to help take it out of the shipping box. The first thing that it said, on the inside box flaps, was instructions on how to repack it into the shipping box. I was afraid to cut the box in case it had to be returned. So I waited. Once I found a strong friend to help me remove it from packaging, I proceeded to follow the instructions provided, including removing all the packing tape, installing the CD and downloading the drivers. I could not get the machine to recognize my wifi, and it took quite some time to work through the options in the manual and on the machine and my computer. Eventually, I was walked through the process on the online support page, (after reading many support pages that didn't have the answer). More waiting time, while I read the manuals, FAQs and tried the various options for set up including LAN assistant. Even once I got the wifi connected, I still have to get my computer connected and it's providing options that don't mean anything to me. I don't know if I should be doing this from the printer or from my computer. Anyway will continue to hack away at this...
I am now trying to register my machine and followed the link which did not take me a place to register my new machine, but took me to a place to subscribe to online support and email offers and promotions. I'm still looking for the page that lets me register my machine MFC-L8900CDW.
I've had the machine for 4 days and have yet to get any printing done. Will provide follow up, once I actually get this thing working.

Brother MFC-L8900CDW is a solid Machine, BUT ...
Brother MFCL8900CDW is a solid Multi-functional device; however it needs / depends on a computer to achieve its full potential. The printing quality for black and white is quite good, color printing is just okay. I have to admit the colors are a little bit off on the printed page compared to the original. This machine has a lot of features and one of them is the double side scanning option from the high capacity ADF but... it doesn't detect the paper size automatically, it needs to be selected manually before scanning / copying.
Scanning option displayed on the printer screen are limited, however if you install the ControlCenter4 software on your computer (i.e. you can select 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution instead of 600 x600 dpi from the printers LCD). One of the problems I encountered was when I started the WiFi Direct on the printer. It's meant to create a direct WiFi connection between the printer and a mobile device. Somehow it messed up with the network configuration, so that I couldn't access the APPS anymore. I got the connection error 03 message and since I couldn't find any relevant solution on the web I tried contacting Brother Customer service. This is when the second problem occurred. In order to speak with a technical representative, I had two options: the chat ... or to pay $49 to purchase the platinum brother care program for Online & Phone support. I started with the chat ... what a disappointment. The rep wasn't very savvy or helpful and therefore wasted almost an hour of my time. By resetting the network settings solves the problem but when I activated the WiFi direct function I went to square one. When I asked the rep if the problem might be caused by the WiFi direct , the answer was WiFi direct is not what solved the problem. In that moment I gave up and decided to stop trying. It deserves 4- 5 stars, BUT for the lack of savvy technical support, the pay phone support and for releasing the product not fully tested/function I'll give it 3 stars

The unscannable/unprintable areas are a deal braker
This printer is good overall. However the unscannable and unprintable areas shown in the "Paper Handling" section of the User Manual are unfortunately a deal braker.
Why in the world would I want to scan a 8.5"x11" page and get a 8.25" x 10.75" scanned page as a result? For example, when scanning a Letter size page, this machine crops 0.25" in width and 0.25" in length. Basically each border edge gets crop of 0.125".
Unfortunately this unscannable/unprintable areas cannot be modified thru the available or hidden settings. For whatever reason they do this, they should let the user choose wheter he wants to crop or not these areas.
Returning this machine to the store.

Outstanding value.
Printer is reliable thus far (about 4 months has all features needed, color laser, duplex printing and scanning, and even orders it's own toners as needed. I did add a second tray so it chooses the source automatically based on paper type requeseted by the job printed.
A bit slow on some jobs, as it pauses the print to preform some sort of internal cleaning / adjusting.
But can't argue with the results, quality outputs at very reasonable price.

Love the Single Pass Duplex ADF Scanner @ 600 DPI
Easy to setup. The quality of both the hardware and software is excellent. The printer works flawlessly with our iPhones and our desktop PC. We pretty much do all duplex printing/copying/scanning. Love the single pass duplex ADF scanner, it never jams. The 600 DPI scanner resolution is great. Also the OCR scan gives me the searchable & annotatable PDFs that I need.
My previous printer's reversing duplex scanner jammed more often than not. Also, the 600 DPI ADF scanner resolution is a vast improvement over my previous printer's 300 DPI resolution. Some other manufacturers tout their flatbed scanner resolution and don't mention the fact that their ADF scanner resolution is still limited to 300 DPI.

Living up to its claims
We bought this to replace a very well used HL4150CDN. Basically the same printer base but without the scanner and the high capacity toner. This one is faster than the old one printing single sided but a little slower on double sided. So far I like it. The touchscreen works well and it took a while to get it set up to save documents on the cloud but it works well now that it is set up.

Love everything about this machine except auto fed scanned copies come out with streaks and smudging. After a pass through with a copier cleaner sheet they are gone but come back again after a few more uses. Not sure if I will ever cure this or if I have a lemon.

Works flawlessly
Bought it to replace a HP that finally died. The HP would occasionally stop printing and would require me to reboot my computer and printer. So far, no issues with the Brother. Works great, but a little slow for the first or single page to print. Otherwise it's great!!

Have had many issues, for example, it will say it needs paper but it is actually full. There is a major delay between clicking print and it actually printing. We upgraded from a brother to this brother printer thinking it would be an improvement but that just isn't the case unfortunatly.

Have only one negative comment. When scanner is set on Auto, will not scan to legal size, only letter size. It does not seem to recognize a legal size from a letter size.

Perfectly Splendid
Our office was struggling with an HP computer than could NOT seem to handle being on multiple computers and used very frequently. We had our office IT team and a hired professional take a look at the machine and nothing worked. I researched brother printer and found this gem. I bought it same day and the install was perfectly splendid. We have had NO issues since that day and even efficiency has improved.

Excellent machine for the price
Overall this is a wonderful machine for home or small office use. I've had for a few years and the only issues I've had are periodic toner leaks (using OEM toner and periodic losing wireless connections (is addressed when I remove printer and reinstall). This may be due to either updates from Windows or the updates to printer SW.

Ease of Use
I am pretty busy at present with all that is going on. I brought the printer and I knew it was a little more than I needed, but it has been perfect with the ease of setup and the reliability. I really did not have time for things not to work. I put the printer on to the network and every device in my house can print to it no problem and with the large paper tray I just forget about it. Great Printer

Complicated
For an all in one printer setup should be seamless and not require hours of IT service to get the drivers downloaded to scan and FAX. While many people may not use these features it needs to be made easier for people to get them working. Not very user friendly either as you have to scan then go to PC to approve, plus there are so many different ways to access the utilities, just saying it could be less complex.

The best investment I have EVER made!
Life is sweet when you can just print documents that you need right now! I was going to printing facilities that charge minimum of .14 per page just for black & white. The time it takes me to travel to and from the printing place, the gas it cost and the hassle of waiting in line or running into "machine is out of order", is just too much stress.
Now, in the privacy of my own home, I print whatever I want, whenever I need it, then I'm good to go.
I run my own Paralegal & computer graphics business, this machine is incredible & allows me to do custom printing when I need it: FAST! I definitely recommend getting this machine for anyone serious about their business, it pays off in the long run. Like that $2,500 contract I just acquired from a client impressed by my work. For me, the machine has already paid itself off a few times over!

Overall it's fantastic
If you are printing text and graphics, like logos and pie charts, you will love this printer. However, anything with pictures is another story. I know laser printers aren't know for great pic prints but I wasn't prepared for this level of poor quality. It's bad. Washed out, faint, pixelated.... just bad. So if you are thinking you can get away with it for three occasions pictures are needed, you might want to think again. Otherwise the printer is a dream.

Great Multi Purpose!!
I have been using Brother color printers for 15 years. The reason is the quality and the cost. I had several thousand dollar+ printers over the years, I finally got tired of the high cost. I switched to Brother and have used it ever since. Yes the quality will not match the high-end color laser printers, but for what I need (accounting, misc color reports, some pictures, mostly color newsletters, it is perfect!!

Great Printer
This is a richly featured color laser printer which has advanced document handling capabilities with a fast, virtually jam-free automatic document feeder, outstanding quality output and high speed printing for both color and black-and-white output. The setup was fast and easy. This printer will perform well in both a home office environment and as the primary printer for a small workgroup. The cost/copy is particularly appealing, being slightly over 25% of the cost/copy for color copy of a similarly featured and priced color laser printer in the HP product diaspora.(including consumables such as toner and paper).

All I need for mobile notary/ loan signing
This prints and scans large packages. I have to stand nearby to clear the printed pages to make room for more and add new into a large package for scanning, but other than that, this little machine does the job of those pricey copy machines. Perfect for just starting out in the loan signing business or any work requiring large packages. Faxing is a bit obsolete in my field, so I've never hooked it up to a phone line. My phone and laptop connect wireless (as long as hooked up to the same network. My only critique would be, I wish I could remotely send a job so my docs were printing while I was out of the office and the toner gave notice that it was empty when in fact, it wasn't. This wasn't catastrophic or expensive, as I found out to reset it on YouTube and continue using the same toner. If I would have changed it when it told me to, it could get quite pricey. Overall, I still gave it 5 stars because of the quality of the prints, time efficiency and ease of use. Brother is known for excellent customer service, so it set my mind at ease making such an expensive purchase. P.S. I opted for the color option for kids projects, pictures, labels, business cards, etc. Why not do it all for a little more money?! This thing does it all!

Machine pretty much OK; Customer Service NIL. The year is 2022, you can't, repeat CAN'T speak to a human being at this company. It's a bad joke! The minute you get this machine to your office, you're completely on your own and believe me there's a lot more to it than meets the eye. Priced too high for poor performance
Slow to print multiple pages, scan to email is limited in file size when using the "Easy Email Scan" otherwise, you have to set up a server connection to your email server, which is nearly impossible with the instruction set found on the website, so plan on having a usb thumb drive. Customer service via phone is impossible to find. ADF Scan quality: crooked and hard to read. Every print comes out curled, so if you have to load the page later to print something unique on the backside, you first have to iron out the paper. This might meet some home-use standards, but if you are looking for something to make your business look good, with professional quality, look elsewhere.. I got this unit on recommendation of a printer repair specialist, but wish i bought the similar sized xerox, which i had before and loved it dearly.

Fast scanning and printing
Limited usage to date (<200 pages). That said, the scanner is very fast and the document feeder works well. I found found that lifting the cover to seat the pages against the feed wheel saves time and frustration, but this is not much different than large office grade units I have used. There is a 20~30 second warmup for the 1st printed page, after that the pages print quickly.Image quality is fine for documents.it is not photograph quality but I didn't buy it for that.

Hard to find but worth the wait
So far the best color laser printer for home use I've had in the last 20 years. Easy to set up from the beginning only issues I had were the software loaded a 2 versions of drivers which impacted dual sided printing. Once discovered, deleting the bad driver solved the problem. The second issue was in changing from letter to legal size paper. Instruction was a bit weak but was able to figure it out after 15 minutes. Now with issues resolved, I'm very happy with the decision to buy this printer. I've recommended this printer to many friends and now they have the issue of finding one. Operates very efficiently. Have printed nearly 1000 pages, in B&W and color combined, to date and still have plenty of toner remaining.

Scan to email is stupidly complex
The printer is impossible to hook into a network, the scan to email and scan to drive function is impossible to configure. I had to hire a computer network company, it's about a decade behind the curve. It requires you to enter the IP addresses, email configuration, and all other kinds of technical information to set up, unlike other printers where you just enter an email address out of the box and it works. If this is an important function for you, I would get another printer, any cost savings is not worth you time. Stading up a VPN from scratch is less complex, as Brother has ZERO helpful info or instructions on how to set up scan to email.
It prints fast and the ink lasts a long time, which is a huge plus.

Software Update gone bad
I had this printer all set up and ready to go. Looked like it was going to be a perfect fit. As soon as everything was set up the screen said it had a software update so I accepted it and after 10 minutes I went back to the printer and the screen was black. Couldn't press any buttons or anything. I thought maybe it was still updating so I left it alone for another 20. Came back and it was the same thing. There was no loss of power the entire time. Really sucks that I only has this printer for 30 minutes before I couldn't use it anymore.

Better Than I Imagined
Replaced a very old HP laser printer and couldn't be happier. I'm a retired print shop owner and I'm impressed by this machine. The color is great, crisp, and spot on. Printing both sides of a sheet is easy. I'm finding the it relatively easy to navigate their touchpad controls. Glad I chose the printer that has high owner satisfaction ratings from those who own it. I scanned in a lot of pages for a 47 page booklet. Some were marginal but I was impressed by the finished quality of the scanned images. Glad I goth this color printer.

Best Color Laser Jet Printer
I researched all the color laser jet printers and this MFC-L8900CDW looked to be the best there is. My next dilemma was to find one as I even went to Brother to purchase one and they didn't have any. I finally found one, set up wireless connection and it works beautifully. I've had many problems in the past with HP and Canon wireless connections and it was totally frustrating as they kept loosing the connection. I love this printer and one other point is when printing it is so quiet. Believe me, you will also be happy with this printer.

when you send something from the computer to the printer it has too much of a delay when you’re trying to print Sarah Adams very fast to get work done each time you send something to it is about 45 to 60 seconds before the printer will print it out but it does print good too much of a delay setting on the computer to the printer the printer wait too long to process what you print except that everything else is good if you are wanting it to print as soon as you send it to it do not buy this printer because it will not do it it has too much of a delay between each time you send something to it to print.

Constant Reset
Not sure if it’s our set up. But even after downloading multiple software straight from the brother website, our printer constantly needs to be reset or removed and added to the network in our office. When it’s working, it’s great. Does everything we need. However, the inconvenience of constantly playing with the settings is starting to push us towards possibly trying another product from a different company.

Almost Perfect But...
This is an excellent printer and I would have given it a 5 Star rating except when I use the manual front paper feed (MP) with an envelope, it puts a crease on the bottom side of the envelope. It seems to grab and crunch the envelope. It's a small crease and the envelope can still be used but it's noticeable. I need to print envelopes often for business.

This is a great printer. I am very pleased with it. It was the easiest printer install that I have ever had. I purchased a second tray. Between the two trays and the front manual feed I have been able to deal with 3 sizes of paper which I do on a daily basis. The print quality is great. The interface is good. I recommend this ubit to anyone.

Workhorse of a All in One
This is my second Brother and I am very satisfied with it. My only complaint is that it prints out slow. Every week I have to print out over a 100 pages for meetings and I'm always waiting for it to finish printing. My previous Brother which was not an all in one and basic, was fast. I've tried to see if there was a way to increase the speed but I am not a techy person. Would I buy this machine again? Yes

Excellent All-In-One
The 8900 is an excellent machine with better quality than most of the printers, copiers, all-in-ones available on the consumer market today.
Pros:
1- I love that it came with 4 full toner cartrdiges, not starters that quickly need replacing.
2- It was easy to set up and start using.
3- Both the black & white and color pages it prints & copies are excellent.
Cons:
1- The only downside is that it can be slow to start printing, but once started, it takes off.
I can live it and compared to its consumer market competition, it deserves 5 stars.
If you need more machine than the 8900, you should go with a commercial machine from an office equipment sales-leasing company.

Slow Printer - Constantly has to "Cool Down"
This printer is much slower to "receive data" than my previous Brother printer. It prints 2 pages and then has to think for several seconds to a minute to print the next 2 pages. My previous printer would print multiple pages at a time. Getting constant black lines on my documents now that aren't going away with a cleaning like they used to.

Sorry Brother but you don't measure up
I am the Clerk / Treasurer for a small town of under 2000 people. Our office does approx. 900 prints or "copies" a month. We have had this machine less than 1 year and we have had nothing but trouble from the first month. The colors are not vibrant like other laser printers I have used, it has a longer than usual delay before it prints like sometimes a minute or more. The toner cartridges leak, and the pages all get color drops on them. It comes set so that you use all the colors when you print so the toner goes fast, and it is set at 20% so it says change the toner well before it is empty. Our IT guy fixed the % so we could at least get 95% of the toner and changed it so all the toners aren't used
for black and white pages. We started receiving faxes for about 2 months and then they stopped, and we can't send a regular fax we have to do it from the PC which is time consuming when the fax is for a customer etc. I could go on and on but I will spare you the negative details. I am not speaking for all Brother machines and maybe this one is just a lemon, but I am going back to HP. Sorry Brother you just don't measure up to them.

Simply a great all-around printer
I've been using this printer for a few months, and I have to say, it does everything I need it to do. This is a great home/small business printer. It was very easy to set up: I used wireless network setup option. It's like having a copy machine in your home that allows you to print from your pc or laptop. It even prints over network from my iPhone and iPad. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Timely deliver, great product for my home office
I bought this MFC to replace my Brother B&W laser printer (HL-2070N), the power supply of the old unit (date manufactured: Apr 2006) finally gave in after years of service.
This is a very capable machine for a small business owner like me. I use it to scan/copy invoices, bookkeeping, and perform other administrative tasks. Setup was easy on MacOS, online manual was easy to follow and very well documented.
Very impressed with the quality and the speed of the machine; it works very similar to some of the enterprise MFCs that I've used in the past.
Overall, this MFC is a great product with awesome delivery timing by Brother Canada. Ideally, I'd like to see the price of the toners to be more economical by the time I need to replace them.

It's everything I need to process legal size documents.
I almost didn't buy this product, because the "official" specifications in the document brochure say that the document glass size is letter size (8 1/2 x 11). However, the store had a floor model and I was able to see for myself that the document glass size is indeed legal size (8 1/2 x 14). I purchased the product and I can do everything I need with legal size documents - including 2-sided scanning, copying, and printing.

Great Upgrade
This is a great upgrade for my in-home business. Great speed and features for this class of printer. I have only two minor suggestions for future models. First, checks/paper get caught on a slight ridge/lip that doesn't allow the paper to go all the way in. You have to make sure you listen for the chime to know that the printer is recognizing the paper. Second, as the problem with many printers in this class with the scanning feature, the pages scan at a slant. I do a ton of scanning, so it would be nice if pages scanned straight.

It's new to us, so we are still learning all it can do. We are having trouble getting it to talk to one of our computers when we scan. During the lock-down of 2020, I decided to purchase a full multi-function color printer and the Brother MFC-L8900CDW exceeded my requirements for a home printer. Print Quality Good but Wi-Fi stinks
Connectivity seems to be a problem with all Brother printers. We're on number 3, and we still have the same issues. Three different models and all of them struggle with the connection. Can't scan. Can't print. Constantly resetting the wifi setup. If I could only get that worked out, I'd raise the rating a star or two. Print quality is very good, Speed is decent, and it doesn't burn through ink, so maintenance costs shouldn't be bad.

Works great but shuts off all items on circuit
I purchased this printed because I print a lot. This printer works great but it must be on a dedicated electrical circuit all by itself. It puts out so much voltage that anything that is on that circuit shuts off. I had to put the printer on a dedicated circuit all by itself which is very annoying. I moved to a brand new house and it continued to do the same thing. I do love the fact that the laser cartridges cost less than the HP and Cannon. The quality of the prints are awesome, but the voltage it uses is just too much. No one wants their computer shutting down when they print a file.

Overall we're happy with the 8900. Not fancy like the HP, but doesn't have the break downs and is much more physically sturdy. The Brother also uses far less ink and the cartridges are much cheeper. A little slower responding to print requests, but gets the job done effectively.

We love our new printer...it's easy to use (user-friendly, it scans, faxes, copies and does everything we need for our small office. The ink cartridges are easy to replace and any time I've had an issue, the customer service is super helpful. This is a great quality printer.

Slow
This is one of the slowest brother printers I have ever owned. It will pause in the middle of printing then just start back up after 10 or 15 sec. and tell it to print and about 20 or 30 sec later you might get your paper.

Nothing but problems
I set my printer up, ran the first print job and there's a nice black mess printing down the side of the pages. I tried faxing and it cancelled the job giving an error of not enough memory. I need to print legal and letter size pages, collating, on the same doc but it's printing all on the same size, even though I submit the job to print according to the original size. Not a great first day with this machine.

A good choice
I have used it for about four months now. It is so far trouble free and print quality is good and the original cartridges still work after a few hundred prints. Overall, I am a happy customer.

Not good for multi-function printing
While the print quality of the L8900CDW may be great, the paper handling is pitiful. The end result of running envelopes through the machine and printing the mailing address on the envelope is not a product you would want your company associated with. The envelopes come out wrinkled! Not good. In addition, when printing letters, the paper comes out rolled, again not a good presentation.

Nice... but...
Hard to set up, much techey and could be easy if the right folks designed the interface. Color on pictures and illustrations is not accurate at all. So far can only scan from computer but not from scan function on printer. For normal B&W printing it is great. Like the two side scan speed and quality on B&W Docs. So far I haven’t had time to contact Bother support, and I shouldn’t have to do so!

Best value and excellent features!
I read many reviews before purchasing the MFC-L8900CDW. I compared it to HP, Canon Lexmark and even Epson. But none of them came close to this price point for the amount fo functionality this MFC brings. Take it from me, I used to sell printers many years ago and was even a sales rep for Epson. I also think that the cost of the toners is one of the better ones out there. the print quality is great and the PPM is great. My favorite feature so far though is the multipage feeder for scanning a lot of documents.

cannot change scan document size
it scans always as legal size document. I cannot change scanning-document-size to letter size. Problem occurs when I print the scanned-result to a letter size paper. Top portion of the document is jammed in printing.

Best ever!
This is my second Brother color laser printer. I purchased my first one in 2010 (MFC 9460 CDN) and it is still working flawlessly. When it came time that I needed a second printer it was a no-brainer to get another Brother. I purchased this printer (MFC-L8900CDW) in 2017 and it is still working flawlessly. This printer is a workhorse. Very user friendly, very dependable and reliable, easy to install. Even after a few years of ownership I called Support with a question and they walked me through and solved the minor problem (which by the way was my fault) The tech support is amazing. I will never buy any other brand. I once purchased an ink cartridge that was not a brother product and all the colors were off. I will never buy anything but Brother cartridges. It has so many features...anything you need. You will not be disappointed with this printer.

Great to crappy
We purchased this machine and right from the start it was great. About 6 months later the machine had to be replaced under warranty because it fried out. The rebuilt machine they sent has been crappy from the beginning. The scanner doesn't work unless you put it on the glass. The print is off set all the time when printing. Copying works fine. They only thing they don't me is that you can't use aftermarket toner. So I put the genuine toners in and it hasn't helped at all. Ready to throw this out and start again with another printer.

Great Printer
Well built. Nice features. I had to correct a problem when I printed in duplex mode. The second page would print upside down. I never had that happen with other printers that I owned. It was corrected in the printer dialog page and saved as default. It has worked fine since that. I am very pleased with this printer.

Compact footprint, good Color print, not Photos
Heavy, small footprint, easy setup, fast printing, good documentation, able to print very nice color print documents. This color laser printer by brother not for photo prints, but is good enough for layout proofing of color photos. And very energy efficient to operate.

Great printers! Customer service-not very good
I'm a Brother partner and have been selling Brother printers for 10 years or so. Some of the most reliable printers on the market which is why I became a Brother partner. In the last 10 years, I've only had 2 warranty claims. One for an inkjet AIO 4 or 5 years ago and one a couple months ago for this model. I've sold 6 or 7 of these models over the last couple years and this was the first failure-thankfully under warranty.
The replacement process was slow and customer service response was too slow as well.
It should not take over a week to receive a replacement once the decision has been made to replace it. The only good thing during this warranty replacement process was I didn't have to pack and ship the faulty printer back to Brother.
Again...Brother printers are great but customer service needs a lot of improvement. Especially for Partners.

Great Feature Set
This printer keeps surprising me with features and the ease of use.The number of ways you can get scans from it and the ease off setup is wonderful. The color prints are such a nice step up from the Back and White prints and the low cost of this color laser with such a rich feature set has made it all worthwhile. It has been flawless in it's operation and I would not hesitate to buy this printer again.

Love everthing about it!
I have tried all features that I can utilize at my home. It was easy to set up and is easy to use. We are low volume printers so it is especially nice that my ink is not clogged or dried up like our old printer - this prints whenever I choose to print!
