Postscript printer did not have postscript install
The postscript printer did not have software/firmware installed. Working with technicians we finally got it working but it remains slower than the Z6 and only slightly faster than the T790 it replaced.

I don't understand those negative reviews
Needed a replacement for Designjet 130 . That one after 10 year still working fine but was time for an upgrade. Originally had the Z6 in mind but decided for Z9+ .
It's not your small printer anymore but quality of the prints is non negotiable. Setup was easy and very well documented. After that setup which was pretty straight forward menu driven as well. Those reviewers of 2+ years ago , if at that time it was an issue, it definitely is no longer. And yes, printer is very solid.
Cost of ink is a concern but there is very good cost management telling you exactly how much of each color ink was used for what print. Having 9 different cartridges does not mean you need 2x more ink than with 4 cartridges, in fact, just wondering if you may actually need less (less mixing to get correct color).
Prints of drawings, illustration work, come out as if they are original, in color, vibrant and you just cannot see any dots. Keeps track of different paper types and adjustments and not as complicated as feared at first. Touch screen menu pretty explanatory whenever you need to do something as well. No issues with supplied software and printing from e.g. adobe products.
So far definitely no regrets picking the best.

It not a Z3200
Replaced my Z3200 with the Z9. Still trying to get colors looking like the prints from the Z3200 but can not. The printers does work great loading paper and touch screen controls.

Stay with the Z3200
This is the 5th large format HP printer I have owned. The Z9 is a step backwards, I do not recommend buying it. If you are thinking about upgrading from a Z3200, get it repaired if it breaks down and wait for HP to come up with a better solution. The main complaint with the Z9 is the driver. I don't know what they did to the software, but is bare minimum to print a poster. I print mostly PDF files and they look terrible printing to the Z9. I have had to convert all of my PDF files to image files and print from photoshop. The conversion alters the colors, the lines look fuzzy, the text looks fuzzy on the curves. I spent hours with 3 different HP techs trying to fix the problem, no help. I bought a new HP computer hoping that would help. Downloaded 3 different drivers. Each one worse than the one before.
And when printing from photoshop on a windows 10 PC, photoshop does not always recognize the printer. It will just not print, you have to restart both the printer and computer. Other times there is a lag when choosing printing options. A 20 - 30 second delay with every mouse click. A common complaint in the forums. What should take 20 second to clicking the print button, takes 2 minutes.
The borderless printing is off-center. I get a 1 mm border on 2 sides of every print. Ran the alignment twice, did not help. Additional work every day trimming up prints that I should not have to!
No USB connection for the printer. You have to use the ethernet connection. May not be a problem for many, but it was for me.
The printer comes with starter cartridges, as all do. But be aware that you will be spending $1,500.00 quickly to get the full size cartridges. In the long run, you will be spending less on ink.
I have been looking for a new office. When I do, I will make sure the doorway is wide enough to fit a Canon imagePROGRAF. The Z9 will be the last large format HP printer I buy.

Good printer-poor support and poor documentation
Solid printer, complex setup, good print quality. No HP support for paper configuration and lacking documentation explaining usage.
