It doesn't supply enough power to my new ThinkPad, so I still have to use an additional AC adapter. I would prefer to just attach one cable instead of the two required to operate my ThinkPad. Also, I could use some additional USB ports.

A new ThinkVision monitor connected to the Dock through the Display Port does not wake up when the workstation resumes from sleep or hibernation mode. I've contacted Lenovo but heard nothing yet.

I had to order a USB hub to add to my printer, scanner and any other USBs I needed. Also needed to plug in two screens via HDMI but it only has one HMDI port and one Display port so I had to order a Display port cable to plug into the dock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Practical and solid performance This is the perfect companion for my Lenovo Yoga X1 laptop. With one cable I can charge and have all my accessories connected. The only surprise I got connecting the screens is that when I have two screens connected to the dock, I cannot use the onboard HDMI in my computer; same issue with my other HP laptop. I use three external screens in addition to the laptop's display. Fortunately, I solved the issue by connecting to the dock an external USB 3.0 display adapter. Looking forward to replace the three external screens with dual 4Ks. I don't use the audio connector in the front. The other USB is for my keyboard/mouse transceiver. The second USB-C I use it for my external backup drive. Just perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic TB3 dock This dock works beautifully on my Intel-based Lenovo T14. I have Fedora 35, Ubuntu, and Windows 11 installed and I have no issues in any of them. I have two monitors connected and have no issues. So glad I got this and not some Displaylink dock. I do also have an AMD-based Lenovo Slim 7 with an Nvidia RTX3060 and it surprisingly does OK without Thunderbolt. The displays pass through fine, but one of them occasionally disconnects or the picture scrambles. Note I only have Linux on it and all monitors have different refresh rates, so I wouldn’t blame the dock for not being able to keep all that in order. I will usually disable the second monitor while gaming on the primary monitor.

It took a bit for everything to get recognized and working but now when I plug it in it is almost instant. I still don't have enough USB ports and I tried adding a USB extension to the Dock but it could not see the devices. So it would be nice if it had 2 more USB slots. But I am still not sure how to plug in my second monitor since there is only one USB slot. Seems to be another style I am investigating. Not much information comes with the dock to explain all the ports.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Overpriced without plug and play features. This is the 2nd Lenovo dock I have purchased that DOES NOT WORK with my brand new Lenovo laptop. Get it together Lenovo. Not everyone has hours upon hours to research why these docks do not work when you clearly say they do on your site. The problem with THIS one was the passive and active display port. Really? Basically I have to buy another monitor to make this work because you cannot use a DP to USB cable on this dock. No thank you. I will buy an off brand USB-C dock that is plug and play for less than $40. Seriously Lenovo. You make nice laptops. Either stick to that only or make 2 or three thunderbolt docks that work with every dang laptop that you make with thunderbolt ports. I will NOT be buying any more Lenovo accessories period.

Set up was easy and obvious, plug stuff in where it goes, power it up and your off and running. Helps keep my desk clear and clutter free. The reason for 4 stars vs 5 is, it does not always power up my external hdd when everything comes out of sleep.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from D or ++D, do you know the difference We spent nearly a month trying to figure out why the Display Port would not work on the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Essential Dock. After hours on the phone, emails, tickets, no one at Lenovo nor any search results helped. We finally figured out that there are 2 different protocols for Display Ports, the Passive DP with the symbol D and the Active DP with the symbol ++D. The essential dock has a passive display port so DP to HDMI will not work. We returned all 4 Essential docks and purchased the ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen 2 which includes 2 active DP and an HDMI port. Plug and Play and all was well. THIS NEEDS TO BE DOCUMENTED BY LENOVO.

Has additional USB ports that hook up to your laptop giving you more space to attach external storage or other devices to your computer. Only downside is that there is only one port for an HDMI cable. Wish it had more than one. Other than that...10/10 do recommend!

I've even updated all drivers and firmware, tried new thunderbolt cables, and diagnosed my memory. I purchased this item because it was on the recommended accessories list, so I assumed that compatibility is not an issue. I would like to revise this review if I can solve this issue.

Keep in mind that you will have to update the firmware and download the driver from the Lenovo website. Lenovo can automatically recognize the dock and will suggest the correct files to download, so it's really easy. I did have an issue with the dock's Thunderbolt connector (to connect to the computer, but I sprayed it with a little contact cleaner and now it works perfectly!

My thinkpad is connected to a larger monitor,and I wanted to use the drawing capabiliities of my think pad flat against my desk in front of me, chord placement limits it's mobility. I also wish it had anoth HDMI port, with out having to purchase more adapters for this dock.

This is a space saver that allows me to still use a large monitor and full size keyboard when I want to close the laptop and pretend it's a desktop. The Ethernet port also gives me full gigabit at my desk so I don't have to worry about a weak wifi signal. It allows me the same productivity in a small package that my old IBM Port Replicator did on my T40 17 years ago. Bravo Lenovo.
