Leander ISD Electronic Purchase Program
In Leander ISD, we are working to transform students’ learning experiences to achieve our vision that all students will graduate with every option open. mLISD will support the vision outlined in our Graduate Profile that Leander ISD students are well prepared to enrich our world and excel in a global society and that each student is challenged, encouraged, supported and to achieve the highest level of knowledge, skills, and character in a digital world. In order to support each student, LISD will provide students with increased access to digital content, resources and devices to support anytime/ anywhere learning.
After careful consideration, Leander ISD has chosen the Lenovo Yoga 11e ThinkPad Laptop to pilot as the standard device for secondary students. We are currently conducting mLISD campus pilots at Henry Middle School, Canyon Ridge Middle School and Leander High School. Based on the findings of these pilots, mLISD may begin expansion to all LISD secondary campuses as early as Spring/Fall of 2016.
Leander ISD recognizes the importance of providing our students and their families with choice and have developed a partnership with CDW-G, our current vendor for student and teacher laptops, to provide a discounted rate for LISD families and employees who wish to purchase their own student device. With this partnership, CDW-G has created a parent portal for LISD families/employees to purchase the same or similar device as the student device selected for the mLISD pilots. This parent portal offers additional choice by including a recommended “Good”, “Better” and “Best” option for families who are considering purchasing their child’s laptop instead of using the district device. (See mLSID website for more information on options to participate in mLISD). LISD has selected the “Better Option” for students and the “Best Option” for teachers.
The “Better Option” reflects the base cost the district paid for the device plus licensing cost for Microsoft, since CDW and Lenovo do not have the right to pass on the district Microsoft “Shape the Future” pricing on to parents.
